COMMUNICATIONS SUPERVISOR

Northbrook, Illinois, resident population of 35,000, seeks an individual to lead and supervise all civilian public safety dispatch employees in the Police Department. This well-resourced community is located in northeastern Cook County approximately 25 miles from downtown Chicago. Northbrook includes a wide range of housing, excellent schools, and a diverse mix of retail, industrial and office, being home to the upscale Northbrook Court shopping center. Northbrook has a total area of about 13 square miles and is an outstanding place to live, work and play. The Northbrook Park District maintains 22 park areas, comprised of community parks, neighborhood parks, play lots and passive parks. There are many unique and premier facilities located in Northbrook which is a hub for regional sports aficionados.

The Northbrook Police Department is currently staffed by 66 full-time Sworn Police Personnel, 26 full-time Non-Sworn Civilian Personnel and 30 Part-Time Non-Sworn Personnel, which includes 27 crossing guards

The Communications Supervisor is responsible for all operations of the Police communications center and ensures proper support to the field operations division and courteous and thorough response to requests from residents, businesses or visitors. Facilitates training, scheduling, payroll, planning, organizing, directing personnel, budgeting, technical operations, training, and writing and administering policies and procedures, employee relations and other tasks necessary to keep the communications unit operational. The position reports directly to the Deputy Chief of the Technical Services, and is responsible for both forecasting needs, and providing for the overall technical and managerial requirements of the Communications Center.

Applicants should have related police department or law enforcement experience and/or related education equivalent to a two year college degree. A bachelor’s degree is highly desirable. Minimum of three years of related communications or dispatch supervisory experience is required. Qualified candidates must have a Law Enforcement Agencies’ Data Systems (LEADS) Certification. An Association of Public-Safety Communication Officers (APCO) Membership is desirable.
