Job Summary:
The Village Hat Shop is seeking a detail oriented Accountant with a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard and advance within the growing company. Village Hat Shop was founded in 1980 as a retail store in San Diego, California. In 1997, we launched our website, VillageHatShop.com has been thrilling hat lovers ever since. Our aim is to have the greatest selection of hats and headwear online, while offering our customers the best possible prices and service.
Hours: Full-time
Responsibilities:
- Record bank account activity to the company’s QuickBooks system.
- Payroll including maintaining time cards, maintaining employee information, and submitting payroll to Paychex.
- Enter vendor bills into accounts payable, pay bills as instructed by management.
- Record credit card activity.
- Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded.
- Reconciliation of all A/P related Ledger Accounts including Credit Card Payables, Petty Cash, Purchase Liability, and Prepaid Accounts.
- Invoice vendors, monitor accounts receivable and follow up on past due accounts.
- Monitor Sick Leave/Vacation and generate life insurance reports
- File EDD reports as well as prepare all paperwork for new and exiting employees
- Research and file Chargeback claims
- Create daily and monthly sale reports for owner
- File sales tax monthly and work directly with CPA
- Assist management in providing information to external accounting firms for preparation of financial statements and tax returns.
- Work directly with assistant to make sure invoices are being matched correctly and paid on time

Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent preferred
- 3 years of accounting experience
- Knowledge of bookkeeping practices and principles
- Understanding of QuickBooks
- Strong MS Office Skills: Word/Excel/Outlook/PDF
- Ability to prioritize, organize and successfully balance multiple tasks and requests to meet project deadlines
- Must have solid reading, writing, and comprehension skills in order to understand instructions, correspondence, and memos.
- Strong communication skills are needed to effectively present information to customers, clients, and employees.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
