Summary of Functions
As a strategic partner, the Production Supervisor supervises the daily activities of production area to ensure that volume, cost, and quality standards are achieved. The ideal candidate will coordinate work schedules, staffing requirements, and production sequences to maximize productivity. This individual identifies problems related to production process and provides production reports to assist process improvement. This person is a working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. This person suggests improvements to processes and is a knowledgeable resource for other team members.
Principle Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and direction to the production floor personnel.
- Accomplish manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, disciplining employees; and initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinate daily production floor activities and delegate assignments to production personnel.
- Communicate clear expectations to production personnel, keep them informed of matters pertaining to their job, and develop personnel growth opportunities via training.
- Monitor employee work performance relative to expectations and maintain material/workflow through the facility.
- Ensure material handlers supply the workstations with material quickly and efficiently.
- Monitor and enforce safety policies.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment at all times by educating and directing personnel.
- Ensure equipment and tools are in good working order and available for use when required.
- Ensure all stations are producing product to the company’s quality standards.
- Continuously evaluate and modify the plant layout and material workflow for increased throughput and productivity.
- Monitor and enforce work start, break, and stop times of the production floor personnel.
- Monitor tidiness of the workstations and machines as well as the shipping and receiving areas.
- Coordinate cleanups where necessary.
- Attend and participate in regular production meetings.
- Work in a fast-paced environment with fast changing priorities.
- Address conflicts of interest and provide solutions.
- Lead the production floor personnel and maintain a positive work atmosphere.
- Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
- Uphold all OSHA standards applicable to the responsibilities above.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field.
- 2 years of Supervisory experience as an individual contributor.
- Experience with a company with 300 employees.
- Industry exposure with manufacturing, production, or related private service organization.
- Implementation of production programs by ensuring staff training.
- Develops production process solutions by collecting and analyzing information, recommending courses of action.
- Improves supervisor and employee performance by identifying and clarifying problems; evaluating potential solutions; implementing selected solutions; coaching and counseling employees.
Physical Requirements
Work is considered low physical work in an office and production setting, requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform low physical work indoors with minimum exposure to dust.
Must be able to:
- Walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, use hands to handle objects and reach with hands and arms.
- Will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers.
- Some lifting of supplies and materials from time to time.
- Demonstrate the ability to hear and have specific vision abilities to adjust focus, in an environment subject to noise, dust, etc.
- Perform all work safely in a fast-paced work environment.
- The incumbent is located in a quiet office area and is faced with constant phone interactions and will be in contact with other staff.
