Sr. Accountant
Position Summary
Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as a Senior GL/Cost Accountant. If you join us in this position, you will provide Accounting support for both the finance team and a broad range of teammate “customers” who rely on timely and accurate accounting support and financial information. The individual will perform a flexible range of activities. This role will be responsible for performing a portion of the monthly accounting close process and select financial reporting. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills.
This is a Full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.
Your Mission
- Prepare journal entries complete with necessary supporting documentation and schedules.
- Prepare account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
- Provide account analysis where necessary to appropriately determine accruals or other estimates to be recorded.
- Prepare daily/monthly bank reconciliations.
- Responsible for analysis and maintenance of fixed assets schedules.
- Prepare supporting schedules for use in financial statements and footnote.
- Assist in providing critical financial information to other teammates within and outside of Finance.
- Assist in coordinating the annual financial statement audit and working with our external auditors on various accounting issues as needed.
- Assist in the continued implementation and development of our Oracle ERP.
- Perform data extractions and prepare reports to support financial statements.
- Assist in general process improvements and process documentation for all facets of the accounting cycle as well as the continued development and documentation of our accounting policies and procedures.
- Cultivate internal relations at all levels by providing support and a high level of customer service.
- Perform various projects such as research, special projects & analysis as needed.
- Performing month-end cost accounting close activities.
- Maintaining cost accounting system and cost ledger.
- Analyzing inventory valuations and production variances.
- Familiar with Average Costing environment.
- Preparing production report.

What you bring
- B.S. Degree in Accounting is strongly preferred, or similar Finance or Business Degree is expected.
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in public accounting or mix of public and private is preferred.
- Strong financial analysis skills.
- Possesses strong knowledge of accounting rules or the ability to perform research to properly interpret and determine the appropriate accounting treatment for common transactions.
- Ability to present and explain financial data and analysis to both finance and non-finance audiences.
- Proficiency in all MS Office applications, especially Excel.
- Must be a U.S. person as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15).
- Passion for space exploration and a firm belief in the utility of affordable access to space.
- Ability and desire to perform in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment.
- Self-driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement, inter-team communication skills, and attention to detail.
- Must be able to provide proof of US-approved Covid-19 full vaccination status, unless otherwise exempted by an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation from Virgin Orbit.
Skills We Value:
- CPA license/candidate preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with accounting systems and practices. Oracle experience a plus.

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
