POSITION: Transportation Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Principals/Superintendent
JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Principal(s) he/she is serving and the Assistant Superintendent, the
Transportation Coordinator assists in planning, organizing, and directing the operations of the VCPS’
school transportation program. The Transportation Coordinator assists in direction of driver and bus
related activities, maintains currently employed drivers with training, retraining, and behind the wheel
instruction, is responsible for the dispatching and coordination of all transportation related activities for
the district, and assists in supervision and coordination of all transportation related activities for the
district.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepares the bus routes and schedules after studying traffic conditions, pupil loads and other such
pertinent factors.
2. Supervises the assignment of drivers, field trips, coordinating these with regular routes.
3. Rides with and trains regular, substitute, and prospective bus and van drivers.
4. Rides with drivers and suggests improvements, if necessary.
5. Works with principals on student behavior and bus stop problems, answers parent inquiries and
complaints and gives information pertaining to the district’s transportation of pupils.
6. Assists in preparation of annual budget requests as they relate to transportation.
7. Submits in a timely manner accurately prepared records, reports and information as requested.
8. Supervises training of new transportation personnel.
9. Communicates with staff and parents to provide route updates.
10. Oversees and ensures all district vehicles are well maintained, clean, and receive service, as
necessary.
11. Schedules and facilitates 45-day inspections for applicable vehicles.
12. Schedules and ensures compliance with CHP inspections.
13. Maintains driver and vehicle records.
14. Interviews and hires for driver positions.
15. Other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
● Prior experience working with students in a learning environment is preferred.
● Prior experience in school transportation, as a transport coordinator or a similar role preferred.
● Possess a valid Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification.
● Possess a valid California driver’s license.
● Bilingual Spanish is preferred.
