Vital Strategies is seeking a Global Director, HR Operations & Compliance:

Vital Strategies has been expanding programs and its global footprint over the past few years. With this growth, we need to ensure that our global people practices are compliant, sensitive to our diverse workforce, and forward thinking as our work and teams evolve. The Global Director, HR Operations and Compliance is a key HR position that Vital Strategies is currently seeking to fill to support our global teams and Vital’s mission. Following the recent launch of a new strategic plan, the organization has committed to investing in its’ people department. Job Purpose:

The Director, Global HR Operations and Compliance reports to the VP of Human Resources and plays a critical role in executing HR initiatives, driving HR functional excellence, process improvement and global HR compliance. With seven global offices and EORs in ten countries, this role will ensure that global processes are documented, standardized as appropriate, disseminated, and adopted. The Director will straddle both the centralization of certain HR operations; as well as the decentralization of other HR activities. The Director must be culturally sensitive, globally experienced, and comfortable in championing change management. This role will recommend and roll out policies and best practices that are inclusive, guide global employment action processes, collaborate on workforce expansion to new countries, and oversee global benefits and compensation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Global HR Operations -

  • Maintain a high-quality global HR operations function, including standardized policies as legally appropriate, standardized processes, appropriate technology, systems and tools, forms and guidelines that are available to all HR team members, well-understood and utilized.
  • Partner with, support, and advise global Vital HR team members and Country Directors on HR operational matters; as well as support local HR partners in assuming HR functions locally as appropriate for that office.
  • Lead global HR due diligence (terms and conditions of employment, infrastructure and documentation) and manage the maintenance of international office employee handbooks and guides for EOR-hired staff.
  • Partner with leadership, programs, and operation teams in opening offices or establishing EORs; as well as closing offices or programs.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting and required documentation; as well as timely response to HR audits.
  • In partnership with local HR team, lead annual global employee benefits renewals and EORs in plan design and budget.
  • Oversee global compensation including: salary benchmarking, pay reviews, processes and training.
  • Oversee the establishment of EORs and the ongoing vendor/employee/manager relationships.
  • Ensure the global HR team is trained in the areas of HR Operational Programs/ Practices/ Frameworks, as well as any other HR foundational training as needed.
  • Ensure that HR documents focused on policies, procedures and compliance are accessible to all staff via the Vital intranet.
  • Implement and maintain operational metrics and people data to inform key decisions.

Compliance -

  • In collaboration with Legal and VP HR, ensure that HR processes, policies, record keeping, and forms are in compliance with regulations, country and local labor laws, and donor guidelines.
  • Oversee policy, process and procedure documentation.
  • Perform spot checks to Employee Files to ensure they are auditable and provide training to HR team members responsible for compliance.
  • Responsible for leading the execution of the global data retention policy for Vital HR data and documents.

Employee Services -

  • Coordinate the preparation of HR programs and tools (policies & procedures, SOPs, manuals, management guidelines, and other HR infrastructure) to support the business units as well as proposals and projects.
  • Ensure that all Vital offices and those hired via an EOR have access to a HR Help Desk or equivalent and that there is timely communication and follow-up.
  • In consultation with the VP HR and General Counsel and in coordination with the HRBP, manage complex employee relations issues in a balanced, fair and objective manner, using appropriate counseling, investigative, intervention and mediation techniques.
  • Serve as an internal consultant and facilitator to managers and employees in resolving employment and/or performance problems in collaboration with HR business partners as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with Director of Talent Management and HR Country Teams, ensure delivery of training to managers on HR operations and practices; as well as timely and clear communication of Vital HR business practices to employees.

Qualifications:

Skills & Abilities -

  • Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging concepts and issues, especially as they apply to an HR professional in a global organization.
  • Broad understanding of employment law and compliance, compensation, benefits, and policy and procedure development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as active listening skills.
  • Excellent networking and interpersonal skills as well as strong organizational skills and initiative.
  • Ability to influence and build credibility at all levels and establish collaborative working relationships.
  • Ability to introduce continuous process improvements in HR operational areas.
  • Ability to be discrete and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to assess multi-faceted issues, anticipate potential problems, and apply high level of skill and judgment around complex and ambiguous issues.
  • Subject matter expertise in global HR operations or compliance.
  • Proficient computer skills – especially Microsoft Suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and HRIS/HRM systems.
  • Proven ability to operate in a fast-paced, complex, geographically diverse organizational structure.
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects with quality communication and thorough change management.
  • Fluency in English required.

Experience:

Required -

  • Human Resources professional with 15 years of progressive human resources operations experience.
  • Experience in a global organization, supporting staff outside of the US; non-profit experience a plus.
  • Experience in building HR operations with a DEI&B focus and spirit.
  • Experience in global labor and employment laws and legal resources.
  • Experience in managing and developing a global team.

Location: Vital Strategies will consider qualified candidates regardless of location.

Compensation: Vital Strategies will offer a competitive salary based on local market benchmarking in the candidate’s home country. As required by law, the salary range for this position if the candidate is from the US is: USD $145,000 - $155,000.

Travel: This position will be required to travel periodically.
