Salary Range: $45,000 to $55,000 annually
- Work Location: This role is onsite 5 days pers week in Newark, NJ from 8am - 4:30pm. Tuesdays and Fridays, hours are extended to 5:00pm and 6:00pm respectively, but those extended days are rotated with other staff so it's not weekly.
Responsibilities:
- Provide medical assistance to nurses and physicians in the overall care of patients, including technical procedures such as phlebotomy, and intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
- Participates in the care of the patient, under the direct supervision of the Physician and in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Performs telephone and in-person screenings. Obtains and records patient’s vital signs and reports screening findings to practitioner, and records on appropriate documentation forms.
- Monitors patient status recognizing and reporting abnormal findings or changes in condition.
- As directed by the physician, administers approved medications, including vaccinations, via intramuscular and subcutaneous injections as may be delegated under State regulations.
- Appropriately obtains and manages specimens, including labeling, form completion, transport to laboratories, and log maintenance. Performs quality control for waived testing.
- Works with healthcare team to assure smooth and efficient patient flow and clinical operation. Problem solves obstacles to throughput process and notifies manager and patients of wait time.
- Schedules patient appointments including outside physicians and hospital/ancillary services.
- Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs.
Required Skills:
- Graduation of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Credential Required: Current certification from the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), or the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT), or any recognized certifying body approved by the Board. Applicants may be licensed in the State of New Jersey in another classification permitted by regulations to give intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
- Must have attained a satisfactory level of comprehension and experience in the administration of intramuscular and subcutaneous injection techniques.
- At least one (1) year of related experience in a medical office setting preferred.
- NJDHSS HIV counselor certification strongly preferred.
- Computer literacy with competence in Microsoft Office components required.
- Must have a pleasant personality and be comfortable in a fast-paced environment dealing with challenging patients.
- Demonstrated ability to speak clearly and write proficiently.
- Knowledge of Newark community preferred.
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Primary Source Verification: NJ Division of Consumer Affairs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, visual perception and hearing. Must be able to lift or exert force up to ten (10) pounds. Assists with transportation services within the clinic.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Vitalief partners with clients such as major medical centers and academic institutions that requires all on-site resources such as prospective Vitalief consultants to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated for Covid-19; inoculated annually for Influenza; and successfully pass a Mantoux Tuberculin Skin Test (TST) for Mycobacterium Tuberculosis.
