About the Position
The Research & Development Technician is responsible for working with R&D team members to execute design and development activities. This position will support projects in various stages of product development by providing feedback throughout the design process, developing tooling and fixtures for manufacture and testing, training and leading operators on new processes and contributing to process improvement. This position is expected to communicate technical ideas effectively to all levels of the Research & Development team. This position will perform work in adherence to the VitalPath’s Quality Management System (QMS), including development and maintenance of documentation.
Shift/Schedule
- First Shift: Monday-Friday flexible hours (start time between 6:30am-8am)
Responsibilities
- Work within development teams to support project deliverables from concept through to transfer to manufacturing
- Assist in developing and documenting robust and repeatable processes under guidance of R&D engineers
- Develop tooling, fixtures and aids for manufacturing and testing
- Provide training and guidance to Pre-Production Operators on manufacturing and inspection procedures
- Mentor Pre-Production Operators on complex processes and equipment setups
- Participate in root cause analysis to resolve project or process related problems
- Document material specifications, bills of materials, device history records, work instructions and test methods with the support of engineers
- Proactively identify opportunities for improvement in processes and communicate to R&D engineers along with proposed solutions
- Execute against verification and validation protocols, recording results and supporting the completion of reports
- Document personal performance and monitor personal and team performance
- Drive problem solving and troubleshooting issues in collaboration with R&D engineers
- Maintain VitalPath’s quality and workmanship standards in all aspects of the job and serve as a role model for these standards
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent
- A minimum of 5 years’ working with minimally invasive Medical Device design, development, and manufacturing processes
- A minimum of 1 years’ experience defining manufacturing, inspection and testing fixtures and aids
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
- Highly detail oriented
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to read and understand dimensions and tolerances on blueprints/specifications
- Ability to lead in a team environment and promote communication across functions
- Expertise in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Must be able to work with a microscope and sit and/or stand for an extended period of time
- Must be able to lift 25lbs
- Associate’s Degree in Engineering or relevant coursework/certifications
- Experience with leading, coaching, and/or mentoring employees
- Prior quality inspection experience
- Experience with product and fixture design
- Experience with GD&T and SolidWorks
