JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
VNA Health is hiring a per diem Cook to work with our Chef and the interdisciplinary team at Serenity House, a beautiful inpatient hospice facility. As a Cook, you will prepare meals according to all health and safety standards and dietary requirements of our patients. All employees at VNA health are expected to respect and promote the mission, vision, and values of VNA Health. Per diem employees generally work at least two 12-hour shifts per month.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
- Prepare meals according to all health and safety standards, in accordance with licensing requirements and Dietary recommendations.
- Work with interdisciplinary care team to provide meals that satisfy terminally ill patients.
- Work with the chef to monitor use of food and equipment.
- Help assure that patients' food preferences are adhered to as much as possible.
- Therapeutic diets must be provided for each patient as prescribed and are planned, prepared and served with supervision and/or consultation with the Chef and dietician.
- Maintain accurate records of refrigeration
- Clean and maintain a safe kitchen environment, equipment, and patient food utensils and items.
- Work with the chef to keep expenses within the Serenity House budget.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified Cook (preferred but not required).
- Hospice and/or home care experience preferred.
- Basic understanding of the nutritional needs of the terminally ill.
- General understanding of the psychosocial issues of food and caregiving.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong customer service skills.
- Ability to work well individually and in cooperation with others.
- Basic knowledge and ability to use computers (email) required.
- Must be able to speak and read English.
- Reliable transportation.
PHYISICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Ability to push/pull 50 lbs.
Ability to stoop, bend, and squat.
Ability to walk up one flight of stairs.
Ability to walk one mile.
Ability to sit for one hour, minimum.
Visual and audio acuity.
