Function:
The Life Skills Coach is responsible for providing hands on life skills instruction/training, groups, encouragement and support to persons served. The Life Skills Coach will then implement the portions of the persons Individualized Recovery Plans related to life skills. The Life Skills Coach will be responsible for assisting persons served with accessing community resources to help meet their needs.
Qualifications/Know How:
The Life Skills Coach position requires one year documented experience working in the substance abuse field and at minimum a High School Diploma/GED. A basic understanding of addiction and recovery issues is essential. Must be able to coordinate and implement plan programs. If recovering, the Life Skills Coach must have a minimum two-year’s continuous sobriety. Proficiency with common software and on-line applications is also required. Must possess a valid GA driver’s license and continually meet the requirements for VOASE’s vehicle insurance company.
Principal Activities:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports, documents and common scientific and technical journals. Ability to write and perform required documentation, conforming to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from people we support, members of the business community and regulatory agencies. Ability to effectively present information to management.

Principal Activities:
- Meet with all persons served to administer a life skills deficiency assessment and develop a list of each person served’s five most relevant life skills training needs.
- Provide hands on life skills instruction/training, encouragement and support to each persons served a minimum of three times each month.
- Develop a resource manual that persons served and counselors can utilize to identify referral sources to help meet the person served’s needs.
- Complete all billing for CSI services in an accurate and timely manner.
- Ensure no contraband or drug paraphernalia is brought on campus prior to move in along with ensuring residents homes meet the standards of moving off campus.
- Conduct routine house searches to verify that persons served to not have contraband on campus.
- Maintain accurate documentation with progress notes in accordance with DCH/APS/DHR standards and track progress/lack of progress toward goal achievement.
- Provide case management services to all persons served assigned to case load.
- Facilitate once weekly life skills group.
- Work in conjunction with Therapists to develop CSI goals for persons served’s Individualized Recovery Plans.
- Participate in interdisciplinary/treatment team meetings, community meetings, training and staff meetings as required and in a timely manner.
- Respect the confidentiality and personal privacy/possessions of service recipients.
- Assist Program Manager and other staff with planning any on campus activities.
- Continually look for and develop new activities, contact vendors for group rates and discounts that will meet the needs of the individuals receiving services as determined by the Program Manager.
- Oversee clients daily chores. Report to treatment team and/or Program Manager when chores are not being completed.
- Ensure that all supplies and other necessities required to complete campus chores and conduct hands-on skill building are available and accessible to service recipients.
- Quality services for the people receiving support from Volunteers of America.
- Service recipients successfully reside independently in the community.
