Description of Duties
The Accountant is an accounting professional who is expected to perform all manner of accounting functions at a high level. This position also carries out other accounting duties assigned by the Chief Financial Officer such as...
- Reviewing account reconciliations and financial reports provided by support staff
- Working with organizational leaders, strategize on grant allocation and disbursement, while monitoring the fiduciary components of grants on an ongoing basis
- Preparing month-end account reconciliations
- Assisting with creation of annual budgets and forecasting
- Monitoring operating cash flow
- Monitoring bank accounts and investments
- Providing assistance with fixed-asset tracking and reconciliation
- Responsible for the annual filing of 1099 and unclaimed property returns
- Preparing and reviewing payroll reports for Workers’ Compensation
- Providing wage and earning reports as necessary
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of three years accounting experience in a fast-paced environment
- Strong knowledge within the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
- Knowledge of Non-profit accounting, reporting, cost allocations, contract compliance issues and reports
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure
- Detail-oriented and thorough
- Superior organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Experience may be substituted for education)
- Working knowledge of accounting software programs
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Proficient in Excel, pivot table, V look up, and worksheet creation/modification
- Knowledge of Grant accounting, reporting, cost allocations, contract compliance issues and reports
- Excellent communication skills including written and verbal communication with auditors and funding agencies
- Knowledge of and commitment to the independent living philosophy
