We are currently searching for a highly motivated Roadway Engineer to join our Midwest region in Indianapolis, IN.
This position is responsible for design and management of all aspects of various engineering design projects, ensuring client satisfaction and for Volkert’s growing Indiana Roadway Design practice.

We are currently searching for a highly motivated Roadway Engineer to join our Midwest region in Indianapolis, IN.
This position is responsible for design and management of all aspects of various engineering design projects, ensuring client satisfaction and for Volkert’s growing Indiana Roadway Design practice.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading or assisting in the development of project designs and directing EIs and designers to successfully execute and deliver project work, while implementing client focused strategies
- Applying established and well-defined engineering techniques, procedures, policies or standards
- Responsible for organizing activities, schedules, and reporting in support of assigned projects
- Performing utility coordination as assigned on projects
- Aspires to work in a team environment and is willing to participate in business development efforts and meetings with clients. Work as part of a team to deliver a range of transportation and civil design projects
- Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies. Coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members.
- Attends appropriate team meetings
- Work on detailed engineering assignments including calculations and relatively standard work activities
- Adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results
- Identify and analyze problems using reasoning to arrive at conclusions
- Prepare correspondence and documents with clients, vendors and regulatory agencies as required
- Preparing and/or editing meeting minutes and presentations
- Interacting with clients and the public related to your work and understanding the context of the plans you develop
- Lead or assist in the development of project designs and directing designers to successfully execute and deliver project work, while implementing client focused strategies
- Identifying and analyzing problems using reasoning to arrive at sound engineering conclusions
- Adhering to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual
- BS degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience in roadway design
- Must have proven skills in meeting DOT expectations, schedules, and budgets
- INDOT experience is preferred
- IN PE preferred, or ability to obtain within 6 months
- INDOT Certified Utility Coordinator, or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Experienced in INDOT design methods, plan preparation, standards, and specifications
- Demonstrated capabilities and success developing projects of varying complexity and size
- Proven leadership skills
- Preferred Experience with OpenRoads Designer and ProjectWise or the willingness to learn
