Responsibilities:Position Summary:
Oversees all laboratory operations, including equipment acquisition, monitoring, and maintenance. Directs execution of testing including routine lot related analysis, environmental monitoring, raw material, bulk material and finished products testing. Manages and implements operating procedures and standards to ensure laboratory safety and overall organization and cleanliness, including specialized safety training programs under the guidance of the EHS Manager.
Your primary activities will include but are not limited to:
- Participating in the evaluation, development, implementation, enhancement and maintenance of QC systems and recommending and/or implementing system improvements.
- Ensuring that development and implementation of testing programs meet departmental, company, and regulatory compliance requirements and goals.
- Oversee the Environmental Monitoring Program, reviewing EM data and reports.
- Reviews stability testing data and reports. Designates testing for shelf-life extension of raw materials and testing for complaint samples.
- Conduct laboratory investigations and writing reports for testing deviations and excursions, Out of Specification and Out of Trend results.
- Designates testing of complaint samples and Responsible for the QC training programs.
- Taking ownership of multidepartment projects (identifying tasks, assigning responsibilities and timelines, and ensuring timely completion of projects).
- Developing effective partnerships with other departments to facilitate problem solving and resolution of issues.
- Effectively communicates with other departments and/or internal groups.
- Revising test methods and SOPs. Reviewing QC technical/validation protocols and reports. Generation and approval of laboratory reports for sample release to Quality Assurance.
- Hires, trains, assigns, prioritizes, and schedules work for laboratory staff as necessary.
- Assesses staff performance and gives feedback. Councils or disciplines staff, as needed.
- Maintains equipment and supplies inventory.
- Recommends and initiates purchases, identifies suppliers, negotiates prices.
- Maintains vendor contacts and backup purchase documentation files for reference or reporting, as needed.
- Tracks and monitors laboratory metrics, budget activity and analyzes variances, and presents them to the upper management for further analysis of laboratory performance. Identifies projects that can be executed in-house and those that must be outsourced.
Qualifications:
You’ll need the following (minimum qualifications):
B.A. or B.S. in a science field is mandatory.- Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in a Quality Control laboratory (cGMP environment)
- Working knowledge of GMP, DSHEA, FDA and Proposition 65 guidelines
- Thorough understanding of problem-solving and quality improvement tools and
- techniques
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a cross-functional team within a
- challenging environment.
- This position communicates with all levels of personnel, customers, and vendors.
- Strong oral communication skills are required to establish interpersonal relationships
- across the organization.
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs., climb step-up ladders, and perform constant
- motions of scooping, wiping, raising of arms, bending, and kneeling, if needed
- Ability to be exposed to nutraceutical raw materials and powders which may include
- allergen related items
- Ability to comprehend basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Experience in food/pharmaceutical processing operations, FDA regulated industry, or
- combination of experience, education, and training that provides the level of
- knowledge, skills, and experience needed to perform the job successfully (preferred)
