Job Description
Assist IP attorneys on various IP or other legal activities and record keeping. Perform various clerical and administrative duties that require knowledge of legal terminology. Prepare papers and correspondence. Assist in preparing routine legal documents and reports under attorney or paralegal supervision. Also assist in researching legal issues.
Specific duties include:
- Timely & accurately enter and maintain accurate data in Patent/Trademark CPI Databases (including all US and Foreign cases), as well as generate reports on IP statistics and costs reports when requested by the business units or IP Department lawyers or paralegals.
- Monitor outside IP counsel docket for U.S. and Foreign IP prosecution, as well as opposition, interference, watches, and/or general legal matters, and assist IP staff when necessary as it applies to maintaining IP docket system. Update CPI database as actions are completed.
- Calculate and update all annuity due dates for US and Foreign IP applications. Track payment of annuities made by agent.
- Review, code and approve all incoming invoices for supervisor approval. Update CPI system with invoice charges. Reconcile invoice discrepancies with respective billing party and Accounting department.
- Assist where needed in entering fully executed IP related agreements into agreement management database.
- Duties will also include miscellaneous administrative duties, including, but not limited to, managing department mail, renew IP subscriptions, processing of all departmental correspondence and faxes; handle appropriately; direct documents to proper personnel. May maintain calendars, schedule appointments, schedule meetings and make travel arrangements.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in docketing IP matters.
- Must be detail oriented, have excellent organizational skills, handle multiple tasks and work well under deadlines when they arise.
- Must be able to work independently and generally without direct supervision.
- Able to prioritize work responsibilities and be comfortable in communicating to supervisor when conflicting priorities arise.
- Must be knowledgeable and work efficiently in the CPI database; Custom queries is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate Degree.
- Prior experience with CPI docketing and patent/trademark database.
