Wagner Logistics, a Top 50 Third Party Logistics company providing supply chain services including distribution center management, warehousing, transportation, order fulfillment, product assembly, and packaging is adding an additional leadership position to support our growth. We are seeking a Director of Operations, reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations.

The Director of Operations is responsible for the overall performance of select warehouse divisions. This includes operations, sales, customer service, office operations, safety and compliance activities within the warehouse divisions. This position plans, organizes, directs, and controls warehouse activities. The selection, professional development, and motivation of managers are key responsibilities. This position is responsible for strategic planning and the establishment of performance standards. The Director of Operations is accountable for achieving prescribed company objectives in regard to profit growth, cost control, inventory control, safety, productivity, customer service and return on investments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
Communications
Interact with members of the Corporate Staff to include Executive personnel, Accounting personnel, Human Resource personnel, Transportation personnel, Safety personnel, Sales & Marketing personnel, Maintenance personnel and IT personnel. Maintain contact with customers and hold business reviews. Hold management and staff meetings to organize warehouse activities. Participate and project a professional image in local trade, professional, and civic associations as a representative of the company and when meeting with customers.
Operations
Ensure the development of systems and procedures for operating and managing warehouse facilities, handling & transportation equipment, and human resources in a profitable manner. Plan, direct, and implement warehouse operations and administrative support to meet prescribed productivity and service goals. Work closely with the solutions department to ensure a culture of continuous improvement. Promote safety and compliance with federal, state, and local statues.
Labor Management
Direct the activities of the operations management team to achieve prescribed objectives. Apply effective communication and motivational techniques and create programs to supervise, counsel, and discipline subordinates. Assist Managers and Human Resources in creating programs for hiring, training and professional development. Recommend promotions, wage increases or terminations. Monitor incentive performance and progression for all direct reports.
Information Technology
Assist IT to ensure the implementation of warehouse management information systems necessary to meet company objectives and to facilitate the efficient operation of facilities. Maintain a working knowledge of company and customers warehouse management information systems. Become informed of relevant new technology and make recommendations when applicable.
Customer Service
Oversee the establishment of customer service standards for all accounts and the communication of these standards to personnel. Assure that customers receive the required level of service. Coordinate the contract renewal process with customers. Maintain appropriate contact with major customers and respond to requests when required.
Marketing & Sales
Work closely with the Vice President of Sales & Marketing in achieving sales objectives. Participate in company marketing and sales efforts, including planning new account strategies, making sales calls, developing and quoting rates and negotiating contracts.
Profit Plans
Develop and recommend annual operating profit plans. Develop and manage a system of controls to ensure that service levels and operational performance goals are met within prescribed cost, revenue, and profit parameters. Assure that all accounts achieve predetermined profit standards.
Equipment & Facilities
Participate in the procurement of equipment and facilities required for an efficient and profitable operation. Develop suitable programs for maintaining company standards of equipment and facility maintenance, security, housekeeping, and safety.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree - preferably in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, Engineering, or related field
  • Must possess 7-10 years of leadership experience, 5 of which must be in a third-party logistics multi-client environment
  • Prior automation experience is strongly preferred
  • Highly proficient in the use of Office 365 products
  • Proficient with warehouse management software (i.e., Blue Yonder, Manhattan, Synapse, Mantis, Ramp, SAP, or similar software)
  • Intimate knowledge of processes to ensure compliance with inventory control
  • A good educator who is trustworthy and willing to share information and serve as a mentor
  • A decisive individual who possesses a strategic focus as well as an operational implementation perspective. Effective skills in planning, staffing, budgeting, organizing, controlling, and communicating
  • The ability to develop effective relationships, provide leadership, and integrate diverse organizations and individuals toward profitability objectives is critical
  • The ability to think critically to enhance processes to ensure warehouses operate efficiently and continually adjust to meet customer and market demands
  • The ability to travel up to 20% to locations outside of the Kansas City metro
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ability to sit for up to 8-hour periods of time and repetitively
  • Work in a non-climate-controlled office and warehouse environment
  • Use hands and fingers for keyboard and computer input
  • Use eyes, ears, and voice for seeing, hearing, and speaking in telephone and to others
  • Ability to stand, sit, squat, crawl, bend, twist, reach and/or kneel for up to 12-hour periods of time and repetitively
  • Exposure to varying temperatures: heat, cold, wet, damp, drafty
  • Work on concrete and unlevel surfaces
  • May be required to frequently climb ladders and stairs
  • Work around hazardous materials and may be exposed to carcinogens, toxic, and explosive materials
  • Possible exposure to areas with high noise levels that may require hearing protection
  • Use hands and fingers to grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying sizes and weights
  • Utilize muscles to lift, push, pull or carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds
