The Lead man is responsible for comprehending and utilizing blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical manuals, and work process instructions in order to ensure that assigned crew adheres to all technical requirements, company policies, and are properly manned. The lead man is responsible as the working lead for 5-7-person crew. This position reports to the Foreman or Superintendent as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.
- Must possess leadership ability and be able to lead a crew's performance and multiple tradesman
- Must possess the ability to lay out material
- Must possess knowledge of weld procedures and symbols
- Must possess advanced knowledge of material specifications
- Train and mentor junior technicians in regard to tools and their use, repairs and guidance in regard to projects and schedules
- Coordinate work among all trades to ensure resources are allocated according to work schedules and project priorities
- Manage and maintain work environment safety, perform inspections, and ensure adherence to regulations.
- Must possess the basic knowledge of material specifications
- Understanding of pre/post heat requirements
- Must possess knowledge of hold points
Required Education and Experience:
- Must have strong organizational skills
- Must have a valid driver license
- Forklift driver (preferred)
- Must possess knowledge in the diagnosis, maintenance and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic component systems; the practices, materials, and tools used to repair and refinish various ship repair and industrial projects.
- Knowledge in the operations of a multifaceted mechanic/repair shop; machine/mechanic shop safety practices.
- Ability to understand and administer OSHA, ABS Classification guidelines, USCG, NAVSEA and SOLAS requirements
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- High performance and a strong team player
- Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures

Working Conditions:
- Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, as well as in an office controlled environment.
- May have to visit projects aboard ships, rigs both on and offshore as well as confined spaces. Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE when required.
- Visits may require standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.
