Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of ITS, the Information Technology (IT) Technician provides troubleshooting, maintenance and technical assistance for all College users of computers and peripheral equipment located in individual faculty and staff offices, classrooms, laboratories, and work areas.

POSTING DATE: NOVEMBER 6, 2023

SALARY: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule E3 04 (range: $38,979 - $56,129).

ANTICIPATED START DATE: JANUARY 2, 2024

The position will be based initially at the Wallace Campus in Dothan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: IT Systems Support. Provides support for College users.


  • Schedules, delivers and provides setup for computers and equipment needed for academic and administrative purposes.
  • Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and provides support for computer hardware, software, and network services.
  • Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots instructional technology, including projectors, televisions, screens, touch screen monitors, etc.
  • Performs telephone hardware installation.
  • Responds to trouble calls on equipment or applications, diagnoses problems, and provides local or remote testing and support.
  • Assists users in resolving software problems and questions.
  • Assists in maintaining administrative system connectivity, including server maintenance and backups.
  • Assists in maintaining the College's Ethernet LAN/WAN to ensure all users have required access.
  • Assists with installation and configuration of computer software, applications, or upgrades on College-owned information technology systems; including personal computers, tablets, virtual desktop clients, cell phones, and connections to the data networks.
  • Assists in the installation and maintenance of security cameras
  • Assists in maintaining inventory of IT resources.
  • Assists in removal and disposal of outdated supplies and equipment.
  • Provides support for video teleconference system users.
  • Serves on college committees when requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Possession of an associate’s degree or higher in computer information science, information science, management information systems, or a related field is required.
    OR
    Possession of an associate’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of two years of in-field experience is required.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and extended hours as necessary is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, climb ladders and work in confined spaces is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in IT related field is preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager for imaging and software distribution preferred.
  • One year of experience working in system/network operations is preferred.
  • Previous experience in an education setting is preferred.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE:
The President will appoint an Advisory and Interview Committee to include representatives of the College faculty and staff. This committee will employ appropriate procedures, including the review of application packets, interviews, and demonstration of competency, to determine which applicants are to be recommended to the President for further consideration. From all the applications received, an advisory committee will select the applicants to be interviewed.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.

Employees/Dependents at two-year colleges:
  • 1/3 waived after 1st year
  • 2/3 waived after 2nd year
  • 3/3 waived after 3rd year
