What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Technology Clinical Instructor/Lab Instructor position at Wallace Community College?
A clinical/lab instructor shall be responsible for providing students with the knowledge, skills and communication techniques needed for the students to meet the courses objectives. Closely supervise and guide the students in the college skills lab, simulation activities and/or in the controlled clinical setting (hospitals, health care facility) and objectively evaluate student progress.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following list was developed through a job analysis; however, it is not exhaustive and other duties may be required and assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Instruction. Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.

- Teaches classes as assigned in a multi-campus environment as needed.
- Posts and maintains regular office hours to ensure accessibility to colleagues and to students for advisement and consultation.
- Serves as faculty advisor within the current College advisement system.
- Prepares, distributes, and submits syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional policies.
- Maintains confidentiality of student information.
- Substitutes for other instructors within field or discipline in case of an absence.
- Exercises stewardship of College facilities and materials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Participation in College, Division, and Program Activities. Performs other department activities to ensure efficient, high quality services are provided to WCC.
- Serves on college, divisional, and program committees as assigned.
- Participates in meeting and events required by the college, division, and program administrators.
- Responds in a timely fashion to information requests from college, division, and program administrators.
- Supports both part-time and full-time colleagues.
- Contributes to program and division curriculum development processes.
- Participates in graduation ceremonies.
- Provides attendance data as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Contribution to Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.

- Contributes to planning and development processes through appropriate mechanisms and channels.
- Participates in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the College and its constituents.

- Participates in the marketing, recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Professional Development. Continue as competent instructor in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies.
- Updates knowledge and skills in subject matter field and instructional abilities.

a. attending workshops, continuing education programs, practicums, and academic courses;

NOTE: One hired without a degree would be required to earn an Associate's degree or higher within three (3) years of employment. -
Credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and recognized by the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA) and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required.
(Acceptable credentials are the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), the Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), the joint Certified Surgical Technologist/Certified Surgical First Assistant (CST/CSFA), and the Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C). - A minimum of two (2) years' experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past 5 years is required.
- Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Prior experience teaching is preferred.
- Experience incorporating multi-media instructional techniques into a curricula including instructional technology for web-based teaching and course management utilizing the Blackboard platform is preferred.
- Experience inspiring and facilitating learning with diverse student populations is preferred.
Available positions are contingent upon enrollment and the instructional needs of the College.
