GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Also directs and guides patient teaching, activities of nursing and ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
JOB DUTIES:
- Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care
- Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries, and diseases and uses available resources in assessment process
- Provides clear, concise, written assessment of patient on admission and subsequently in a timely manner in EMR.
- Summarizes assessment data and makes a nursing diagnosis and/or identifies problems which are communicated to the physician and subsequent caregivers.
- Plans care (written or verbal) and implements plan of care for patients as required by specific care unit utilizing available resources, consulting with patient, supervisory nursing personnel, physicians, ancillary personnel, family members etc.
- Performs point of care testing (POCT), including testing, documentation, and quality control with skill and accuracy as directed by the medical director of laboratory services in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
- Documents nursing intervention, patient response, effectiveness, complications, etc.; communicates information to peers and physician.
- Functions within limits of State Nurse Practice Act, Hospital and Nursing Department policies and procedures. Provides care and demonstrates skills comparable to peer with similar training and experience functioning under similar circumstances
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing is required
- Must be currently licensed as a RN in Pennsylvania
- Must complete RQI quarterly with the equivalent of BLS, ACLS and PALS
