Pharmacy Technician (Hospital)

Description

This position is responsible for assisting in the non-judgmental aspects of preparing and dispensing medications.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following)

• Read physician’s orders and prepare medications for dispensing.
• Record dispensing information in patients’ medication profiles.
• Use information from patients’ records to replenish medications and exchanges medications in patient care areas according to schedule.
• Assist in inventory control and ordering medications and supplies from approved vendors.
• Maintain controlled substance records.
• Analyze usage patterns for pre-packaged medication and determines product requirements and priorities.
• Set up, operates and maintains repackaging equipment and supplies.  Package, label, and maintain proper records of repackaged medications.
• Take inventory and analyze drug supplies, replacing outdated, deteriorated medication and depleted inventories.
• Compile, processe and compute prescription charges and credits for inpatient and LTC residents.
• Compile monthly interdepartmental bills.
• Order supplies from Materials Management and restocks service areas as needed.
• Perform inspections of medication storage areas according to pharmacy policy.
• Recommend process improvements for increased efficiencies

• Ability to acquire skill in the use of pharmaceutical instruments and equipment.
