WGL - Lead Architect

Job Description Position Summary Reporting to the Senior Principal, Solution Architecture – Utilities, you will be a core member of the WGL Digital team and will have responsibility for all architecture aspects of the WGL Digital estate. You'll be an independent leader ready to sit in for the Senior Principal, Solution Architecture - Utilities, and a key part of the WGL Digital succession plan. Working directly with business and digital leaders, you will develop and maintain multi-year roadmaps that incorporate strategic business initiatives along with digital asset lifecycle management needs, regulatory requirements, and new technologies to provide business improvements and reduced technical debt for WGL. You'll be comfortable having detailed conversations with business managers and directors, as well as leading strategic sessions and presentations with WGL executive leadership. As initiatives progress, you will provide guidance to solution delivery teams and ensure they are doing the right things in the right way by creating, maintaining, and leveraging appropriate principles, standards, and reference architectures. You will ensure that solutions meet their business objectives along with functional and non-functional requirements. You will understand the role of cloud services including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and cloud-native services, and be able to work with business, application, infrastructure, and security leaders to define, maintain, and improve a hybrid landscape of digital solutions and services. Tasks and Responsibilities • Playing a key leadership role in the Digital architecture function for WGL • Overseeing project solution architects and managing vendors • Working independently, collaborating with business leaders in Utility Operations, Engineering, Customer, Finance, HR, and other areas on key deliverables • Using your expertise and analytical abilities to resolve complex and extensive problems • Presenting options and recommendations to WGL executive leadership and driving consensus on strategic Digital investments • Serving as a senior individual contributor while leading project teams consisting of WGL resources, contractors, and vendors • Documenting all solution architecture design and analysis work and / or overseeing the development of these artifacts by staff, contractors, and vendors • Working closely with business leaders to develop target-state architecture models to support future business requirements • Monitoring the lifecycle of digital assets and including maintenance of these assets in overall planning, including decisions to maintain, refresh, or retire services, applications, technologies, processes, and information • Leading the evaluation, design, and implementation of solution architectures leveraging business applications and technologies • Developing and maintaining a roadmap for the evolution of the WGL solution portfolio from current to target state • Understanding emerging technology trends and disruptions and their practical application to improving utility business and operating models, processes, and functions • Analyzing the business-digital environment to detect critical deficiencies and technical debt, and recommend solutions for improvement • Facilitating the technical evaluation and selection of digital products and services • Acting as an internal consultant on a broad range of technologies, platforms, and vendor offerings to drive targeted business outcomes • Creating architectural designs to guide and contextualize solution development across products, services, projects, and systems, including applications, technologies, processes, and information • Working closely with the program management office (PMO) to ensure the execution of plans corresponds with what is being promised throughout the project or product lifecycle • Providing consulting support to project solution architects to ensure the project or product is aligned with the overall enterprise architecture • Providing deliverables like standards definitions, reference models, and architecture designs to support architectural governance to ensure solution decisions are aligned with the enterprise's target-state architecture vision • Designing and directing the governance activities associated with ensuring solutions architecture assurance and compliance Qualifications, Skills and Abilities • Bachelor's Degree computer science, information-technology, engineering, system analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience preferred • 7 Years in at least two IT solution development disciplines, including technical or infrastructure architecture, network management, application development, middleware, database management, cybersecurity, IT operations, cloud development, business analysis, or technical project management required • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies, platforms, and processing environments • A solid understanding of strategic and emerging technology trends, and the practical application of existing and emerging technologies to utilities business and operating models • An advanced understanding of waterfall and agile principles and development methodologies and capability of supporting development teams by providing advice and guidance on opportunities, impacts, and risks while taking account of technical and architectural debt • Strong experience developing architecture blueprints, strategies, and roadmaps • Solid experience making you comfortable delivering presentations to senior-level executives, business, and technical audiences • Previous experience working in a utilities business is preferred • Previous architecture-level experience with JD Edwards ERP, CGI PragmaCAD, and/or ESRI ArcGIS preferred • Previous experience with architecting and operating digital assets in Azure preferred Hybrid: #LI-Hybrid For Canadian hires: AltaGas hires personnel on the basis of job-related qualifications. Salary : $102,000 - $129,000
