Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Receives and is expected to interpret job work orders and product blueprints and plans as well as other work procedures.
• Once the details of a specific task are understood, the Welder is expected to have the working knowledge to select proper tools and material(s) to perform the task safely and at the highest level of quality possible.
• The tasks performed will support product fabrication through cutting, burning and welding various types of metals according to the product specifications.
• All material cuts must be de-burred and cleaned to the highest possible standards and all welds must display material melt flow and be 100% de-slagged and cleaned to an industry standard high quality finish.
• Perform simple and routine maintenance to ensure that all equipment and tools remain safe and fully operational; in the event a piece of equipment is in an unsafe condition, the equipment should be immediately locked out and a supervisor notified.
• The Welder is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment at all times and must wear all prescribed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing the assigned tasks and stop work immediately in the event of a non-conformance.
• The Welder must report to their supervisor immediately any unsafe act or condition that requires corrective action.
• Must practices 5-S within their defined work area, returns all common tools to their proper place when not in use, and cleans the assigned work area once all work has been completed; the work area must be cleared of all debris and in the event a tool does not have an assigned “home” place, the Welder will consult their co-workers and supervisor to establish one.
• As an individual and part of a team, strives to support continuous improvement across their personal tasks, the tasks of the department, as well as all facets of the business as a whole organization.
• Performs other duties as directed the Metal Fabrication Department supervisor or the plant manager.
• No supervisory responsibilities are generally required for this position.'

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High school or equivalent preferred.
• Completion of a formal apprenticeship or training preferred.
• Experience welding steel and aluminum required..

Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

• Attention to detail and care are required to prevent injury to self and others, particularly when performing maintenance tasks.
• Essential functions require significant standing, stooping, bending and squatting. There is a considerable glare produced from the tools used, therefore necessary personal protective equipment must be worn while job duties are performed.
