What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Research Chemist position at Waters Corporation?
Overview
The Senior Research Chemist Candidate will be responsible for working with R & D to transfer the manufacture of new chromatographic products into the Taunton Manufacturing Site. Work will also be conducted to improve existing manufacturing processes to afford more effective, efficient, & profitable processes. To achieve these objectives, this individual will act as an individual contributor. This individual will plan & execute work to solve problems of moderate to high complexity. We are looking for an individual who is motivated, flexible, & a quick learner, & who exhibits methodical thinking in troubleshooting problems. The Taunton Manufacturing Site is an extremely fast-paced environment where there are many sophisticated assignments to do simultaneously. Finally, this individual must have the ability to interact within a multi-disciplinary team & have good oral & written communications skills.
Responsibilities
1. Work with R & D to transfer the manufacture of new chromatographic products into the Taunton Manufacturing Site. Work involves detailed planning with R & D to design experiments to determine process robustness & repeatability. Scale up studies are to be conducted when needed. Bulk material guidelines/specifications are to be created using a sophisticated statistical treatment of the data.
2. Work will be conducted to improve existing manufacturing processes to afford more effective, efficient, & profitable processes. This work demands a high degree of theoretical chemical understanding & the ability to solve complex problems.
3. Work with the Bulk Synthesis Department to resolve daily production issues. These issues may involve complex chemical, equipment, & infrastructure problems.
4. Work with the Bulk Synthesis Department to directly manufacture products such as reagents, standards, etc. The manufacture of these products involves sophisticated glassware techniques which cannot be implemented by Bulk Synthesis Personnel.
5. Work with the QA Department to resolve Quality/Customer Issues. This work involves creating a problem statement with scope & magnitude, the use of complex root-cause analysis tools, & the ability to find innovative solutions to remove the effect of the underlying root-cause.
6. Work to validate new equipment systems in the New Waters Precision Chemistry Building. This work will involve the analysis of complex data afforded by the Performance Qualification Plan for ~ 100 equipment systems.
Qualifications
1. The successful candidate will have a Masters/Ph.D. Degree or equivalent in organic chemistry with a proven record regarding the application of chemical principles to solving complex technical problems.
2. 2 – 3 Years of experience in an industrial and/or academic setting (i.e., postdoctoral work, etc.) is necessary.
3. This individual must be thoroughly familiar with the implementation of small-scale glassware reactions.
4. Analytical & purification techniques such as thin layer chromatography, column chromatography, distillation, recrystallization, sublimation, & interpretation of IR, NMR, & Mass Spectra Data are necessary.
5. Knowledge of statistics regarding process control and setting specifications is mandatory.
6. Knowledge of cGMP & ISO 9000 Quality Systems are also necessary.
