Brick Yard Shipping/Receiving Forklift Operator, Columbia, SC -
The primary duties of this position are to assist in the day-to-day operations of our brick yard shipping and receiving department. The position is at a large brick and masonry supply distribution center and reports directly to the Shipping/Yard Supervisor.
You will have a minimum of 3-years’ experience as a forklift operator working in a high-volume shipping and receiving environment, excellent forklift operating skills with a background in safely loading and off-loading trucks, basic inventory control knowledge, a self-starter with strong decision-making skills and be results oriented. You will promote a safe working environment and interact often with truck drivers and our customers. The opportunity to make a significant difference exists.
POSITION SUMMARY
This is a hands-on position with 95% of your time on the brick yard loading and off-loading trucks and light vehicles. From a load ticket, you will accurately and effectively pick and package building material for pick up or delivery. You will also receive material into inventory, offloading trucks and placing material into correct bay locations on our yard and in our warehouse, and maintain a neat, orderly and clean working environment. The position requires you lift at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
OUR EXPECTATIONS - YOUR RESULTS
- Complete the daily inspection of the forklift and documentation form.
- Observe all safety requirements and procedures and wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Load all Company delivery trucks, outside trucks (including pick-ups) and cars in an orderly and safe manner.
- Follow all loading procedures and ensure the tags on the product being loaded match the information on the delivery ticket or loading slip. Know how to correctly load trucks, vans. Be courteous, cooperative and helpful to drivers and customers.
- Check the delivery tickets to verify the specific style, size and code of building material to be loaded.
- Locate the material and load the truck according to the driver’s request.
- Unload incoming material, product and supplies as needed. Place delivered inventory items in correct bay/receiving locations.
- Ensure receiving documents match material delivered.
- Assemble orders of building materials correctly from information furnished on delivery tickets and written instructions from supervision. Be able to identify material by the code names.
- Be able to conduct inventory cycle counts on products in the warehouse or on the yard. Properly document and submit any bay moves/inventory adjustments in a timely manner.
- Work to maintain a neat, orderly, clean yard. Inspect the yard inventory for material that is out of place or in need of repair and take appropriate action to correct.
- Empty hoppers and trash containers from locations as needed.
- Do not leave designated work areas without informing your supervisor.
- Complete any other duties as assigned by your Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a certified forklift operator (certified within the last 3 years).
- Must be able to lift at a minimum 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
- Must possess problem solving skills and be able to follow instructions.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work with little supervision.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience loading rail cars.
