What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Engineer position at WATTS?
Responsible for contributing engineering expertise and guidance in all aspects of the quote to build product life cycle. Develops and releases improved products and processes to meet changing market needs including custom applications. Creates and maintains technical documentation and electronic configurations for product lines with an assurance of product quality.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develops complete design packages for custom commercial water heater products by evaluating customer requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials; soliciting observations from operators; applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials to support.
- Assures system and highest product quality by collaborating with purchasing, operations or other personnel involved in the quote to build product life cycle.
- Identifies, approves, and implements deviation documentation for manufacturing, product design, and field changes.
- Provides engineering information and feedback by answering questions and requests from field or internal feedback.
- Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government and third party regulations and listing requirements.
- Maintains professional development and technical knowledge.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- A four year degree in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; A four year degree in another technical, scientific field may be considered when similar engineering skills are successfully demonstrated.
- Minimum four years' experience in a professional engineering capacity.
- Experience creating and reading 2D and 3D drawings.
- Experience with MRP or ERP System specifically Bill of Materials.
- Experience in manufacturing electrical control system design, combustion control systems, heat transfer, plumbing and piping design preferred.

Applies engineering principles in evaluation of products, systems and manufacturing processes for projects.

- Strong computer skills to include a thorough understanding of Enterprise Resource Planning technology systems and requirements.
- Proficient personal computer and Microsoft Office skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office where the noise level is usually moderate i.e., business office with computer printer, and light traffic. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are not hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. When in the shop environment, conditions vary based on the area and project.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS
- Frequently requires problem solving, analyzing and interpreting data, and extended focus.
- Position requires sitting at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
- Understanding of deadlines within a fast paced environment.
- Ability to compare and evaluate possible courses of conduct and act or make decisions after varies possibilities have been considered.
- Ability to make effective and sound decisions having significant impact on the business.
- Regularly operates a personal computer and express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Frequently involves fine manipulation.
- Occasionally involves walking, standing, bending the neck and waist, squatting, twisting at the neck and waist, simple grasping, pushing and pulling, reaching above and below the shoulder level, and lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs.
- When in the shop environment involves working around equipment and machinery, walking on uneven ground, exposure to excessive noise, extreme temperatures or humidity, dust, gas, fumes or chemicals, and requires the utilization of protective equipment as needed.
