What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Biology position at Wave Life Sciences?
Wave Life Sciences (Wave) is a biotechnology company focused on delivering transformational therapies for patients with serious, genetically defined diseases. We differentiate ourselves through our proprietary chemistry platform that enables the production of stereopure oligonucleotides precisely targeting the underlying cause of rare diseases. At Wave, we welcome those who share a passion to change lives and embrace a culture that is thoughtful, dynamic, humble, and fearless. Together, we can contribute to our mission enabling every patient with a genetic disease to have access to life changing treatments.
Wave seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join its team in Cambridge, MA. This is an ideal position for an individual with an interest in developing RNA-based therapeutics who thrives in a team-oriented, fast-paced, and cross disciplinary biotech environment. The main area of focus for the project will be in the forefront of basic research into RNA epigenetic modifiers and how to perturb them using chemically designed small oligonucleotide therapeutics. The candidate will be an integral member of a small team of scientists aiming to rapidly and pragmatically realize the potential of a novel oligonucleotide therapeutics platform.
Responsibilities
Work with scientists in the biology team to advance an early stage RNA targeting technology
- Plan and execute experiments to optimize oligonucleotide design for the purpose of perturbing RNA modifications/epigenetic modifications across multiple different tissue and cell models
- Rationally apply Wave’s proprietary PRISM platform to improve oligonucleotide efficacy and design
- Execute in vivo and in-vitro assays to characterize changes in the RNA epigenetic landscape and biochemical properties of the cellular RNA epigenetic machinery.
- Prepare clearly articulated experimental reports and data presentations
- Attend and contribute to discussions in weekly internal team meetings
- Publish findings in high-quality peer reviewed scientific journals and/or relevant conference
Qualifications
- Recent or upcoming graduate with a PhD in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology or related field
- Experience with mammalian cell culture including transfection, RNA isolation, qPCR, etc.
- Experience in studying RNA epigenetics is desired but not required
- Familiarity with next generation sequencing methods and oligonucleotide therapeutics (antisense, siRNA, exon-skipping, etc.) is a plus
- Ability to innovate and think creatively to support and advance platform & drug development processes
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong presentation skills; adept at presentation of clear and accurate reports for internal and external projects
- Excellent organizational skills with an ability to embrace change and multi-task in an extremely fast paced environment
