Weaber Lumber is looking to hire a 3rd shift Sawmill Sawyer.

The Sawmill Sawyer manufactures green hardwood lumber from logs using state of the art carriages and scanning equipment. Determine optimum opening face to maximize value and fulfill cutting order and production requirements. Ensure the quality of the lumber is held to our company standards.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:
- Ability to determine and execute the optimum cutting pattern for breaking down logs.
- Perform minor maintenance (change saw blades, lubricate equipment, broken chain, broken hoses, crossed up lumber or jam ups).
- Ability to work in a fast pace environment.
- Operates head saw and feed carriage to saw logs into cants or boards.
- Starts mechanical loader arms that place log on carriage.
- Sets dogs and adjusts carriage blocks to align log for sawing.
- Activates carriage that moves log against saw blade.
- Starts saw to cut log.
- Observes exposed face of log after first cut to determine grade and size of next cut and adjusts setting of carriage blocks.
- Starts mechanical log turner that turns log over on carriage for subsequent cuts.
- Assist in changing change saw blades.
- May be designated according to type of saw operated as Band-Head-Saw Operator; Circular-Head-Saw Operator.
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing manufacturing needs.
- Two years of hardwood sawing experience.
Special Requirements:
- Ability to work with and communicate effectively with other employees.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, and be detailed oriented.
- Must be familiar with the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) grading rules.
Education and Experience:
- HS diploma graduate or equivalent.
- 3-5 years of hardwood sawyer experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Adept thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience in the hardwood industry is a plus.
