Director of Safety

Job Summary:
The Director of Safety is responsible for implementing and maintaining comprehensive safety programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a culture of safety and accountability within the organization. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in both telecommunications and construction safety, expertise in workers' compensation, insurance management, safety reporting, committees, strong computer skills, and knowledge of state laws and regulations in Nevada and Arizona.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure a safe work environment in accordance with regulatory standards and best practices, including specific knowledge of Nevada and Arizona laws and regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and risks, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Provide safety training and education to employees on topics such as warehouse safety, office safety, fall protection, forklift safety, and other relevant safety protocols.
- Direct safety committees and facilitate regular safety meetings to address safety concerns, promote safety awareness, and drive continuous improvement.
- Oversee accident notification and reporting processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of incidents and near-misses, adhering to state reporting guidelines.
- Collaborate with insurance vendors, workers' compensation providers, and regulatory agencies to manage workers' compensation claims, safety reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Develop and maintain emergency action plans, including medical emergency procedures, fire emergency procedures, and other emergency response protocols, tailored to meet all requirements.
- Ensure compliance with hazardous communication programs, contractor safety responsibilities, and other safety-related regulations and requirements, with a keen understanding of state laws.
- Monitor and manage safety performance metrics, conduct safety audits, and provide recommendations for improvement to enhance overall safety culture.
- Source construction safety training programs and ensure all certifications are up to date, checking for expired certifications and enrolling employees in necessary training such as CPR, OSHA 10, and OSHA 30, in accordance with all mandates.
- Maintain accurate records of safety training, certifications, and enrollments, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and toolbox talks to communicate safety policies, address safety concerns, and promote a culture of safety among employees.
- Collaborate with human resources to develop and implement safety initiatives, programs, and training tailored to the specific needs of the telecommunications and construction sectors.
- Coordinate safety audits and inspections to identify potential safety hazards, implement corrective actions, and track progress towards safety goals, adhering to all laws and regulations.
- Provide guidance and support to employees on safety-related issues, procedures, and best practices to foster a safe and healthy work environment.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies, insurance providers, internal and external legal counsel, and external partners to ensure compliance with safety regulations, reporting requirements, and industry standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management, with a focus on both telecommunications and construction industries.
- Proven experience in workers' compensation management, dealing with insurance vendors, safety reporting, committees, and legal compliance.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to build and maintain spreadsheets, format procedural workbooks, and utilize technology for safety management.
- Telecommunications and construction experience is essential to understand the industry-specific safety challenges and compliance requirements.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations, hazard communication, and emergency response protocols, with a deep understanding of Nevada and Arizona state laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to effectively implement safety programs and engage with employees at all levels.
