A Shuttle Bus Driver for WeDriveU drives a commercial bus, following scheduled, pre-determined routes between various stops.
Essential job functions:
- Attendance, as well as meeting qualitative and quantitative performance standards
- Reliability and punctuality as the bus routes follow specific time schedules
- Compliance with all traffic laws, and federal and state transit regulations
- Ability to safely operate and drive a bus without a break for a minimum period of one hour and 45 minutes
- Ability to adhere to the assigned schedule and make frequent stops along the assigned route
- Working a Straight/split shift
- Ability to interact cordially and professionally with all passengers, even if they are unruly
- Excellent communication skills with central dispatchers/managers regarding maintenance/service needs, road concerns, accidents, and other traffic disruptions using two-way radios or hands-free devices
- Excellent communication skills with passengers (to answer questions about schedules, routes, transfer points, and delays)
- Full range of peripheral vision
- Completion of daily driver logs, inspection reports, and passenger tracking counts
- Flexibility and ability to follow directions and adapt to different makes/models of buses and different routes depending on operational needs
Skills Required and Physical Demands :
- Ability to perform a basic manual inspection of the bus prior to the route, including checking bus tires, lights, and oil, and ensuring proper destination signs are displayed
- Ability to operate an air brake (on some buses)
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds to assist with loading and unloading ADA passengers
- Ability to assist passengers with loading and unloading bicycles on bus bike racks
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1+ year work experience as a Commercial Driver
- Valid Class B Commercial Drivers' License, Air Brakes may required with a P endorsement and no restrictions (except corrective lenses or automatic transmission)
- Clean driving record
- Must be able to pass a Drug Test and Background Check
- (DPU) Department of Public Utilities Certificate is required
