What are the responsibilities and job description for the Boiler Room Operator position at Weirton Medical Center?
Operates, adjusts and regulates heating, ventilating, and air conditioning units (HVAC) that include: boilers, chillers, hot water heaters, vacuum pumps, medical air and emergency generator which provide lighting, heating, cooling, air flow and other sources of power for the hospital.
Monitors all mechanical and electrical controls and automatic features on equipment present in boiler room and mechanical rooms. Records readings of pressure gauges, thermometers, air/liquid flow meters and makes adjustments to equipment to maintain proper, efficient and safe operation, specified by hospital and regulatory policies and regulations.
Maintains proper, safe and efficient operations of heating/cooling ventilating and air handling units, thermostats and humidistats to supply adequate air flow and temperature levels throughout the hospital.
Monitors and tests medical gas panels present in boiler room office. Maintain, service and reserve banks of cylinders; change from reserve to "in use" banks when alarms are activated. Replace empty bank of nitrogen or nitrous oxide cylinders. Test for leaks. Change defective seals on medical gas outlets in all patient areas.
Performs water tests on boilers, soft water system, and cooling tower water, closed loop heating and cooling water systems and adds chemical treatment as required to maintain proper water condition in related equipment.
Operates and maintains boilers.
High school graduate or GED equivalent required. Mechanical ability required. Must be able to pass a competency test. Completion of vocation trade school training required or five (5) years of experience in the maintenance/mechanical field.
Three (3) years’ experience in mechanical or maintenance field required.
