WeldFit is seeking a dynamic Design Engineer to join our team, serving as a crucial linchpin in our fast-paced, globally recognized manufacturing company. As a key organizational role in a rapidly growing, world-class manufacturing company, the Design Engineer will prepare and maintain engineering drawings and documents, design and analyze company products, and support various departments. They must ensure designs comply with company, industry, and customer standards. Under the direct supervision of the Engineering Manager - Products, the role involves working across engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, quality assurance, and control, as well as with both inside and outside sales teams. Responsibilities include performing calculations, developing innovative approaches to expand product lines, managing purchase orders, resolving issues, and ensuring effective customer communication. This position requires excellent teamwork, professionalism, and occasional travel to field sites.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute projects to create standard parts and part families, ensuring they meet customer applications, specifications, standards, and design codes.
- Prepare general arrangement and fabrication drawings in AutoCAD and Inventor, including documents and drawings for customer approval, estimating, and manufacturing.
- Modify and change existing drawings based on internal and customer changes and review incoming customer RFQs for technical accuracy
- Create and manage the Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Use 2D and 3D CAD software for conceptual and detailed designs of products like pig launchers, receivers, extruded outlet headers, fittings, hot tap, and line stop fittings.
- Apply company and industry standards to designs, ensuring all customer-specific requirements are satisfied.
- Perform and review standardized calculations to verify products comply with design input conditions, maximizing safety and reliability.
- Create and revise standardized calculation packages and conduct test plans for new and existing products.
- Manage assigned tasks with limited input, working independently and providing guidance to other engineering personnel as needed
- Collaborate with manufacturing personnel to troubleshoot production issues, handle job-specific product variations, ensure product quality, and identify areas for manufacturability improvement.
- Write technical documentation to support customers and internal stakeholders and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience Levels:5 years of experience as a design engineer is preferred.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience releasing fabrication drawing packages (3D models, cutaways, and detailed 2D drawings).
- Experience in the design of skidded/package equipment, compressors, slug catchers, pig launchers, or pressurized vessels.
- Experience creating BOMs within an ERP system (Styeline, E2, Oracle, JD Power, etc.).
- Knowledge of common pipe fittings, pipe grades, fasteners & fastener grades, and weld symbology.
- Knowledge of or exposure to ASME code calculations software (COMPRESS or PVELITE).
- Knowledge of PLC systems is a plus.
- Machine design experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with ASME, ANSI, and other common industry codes and standards.
- Minimum of 5 years of design engineering experience.
- Prior experience designing pressure-containing equipment, gas separation assemblies, and/or pipeline components.
Required Skills:
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proficient in 2D & 3D parametric CAD, AutoCAD, and Inventor.
- Strong grasp of core mechanical engineering principles (statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, design for manufacture, etc).
- Understanding of common steel fabrication processes including welding, machining, and extruding.
- Working knowledge of B31.4/8 and ASME BPVC.
- Strong capabilities in Microsoft Excel. The ability to code in VBA is a plus.
