How you make a difference
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for a Restoration of Competency program works under the guidance of the Regional RTC Psychiatrist, providing assessment and medication prescriptions for up to 35 mentally-ill patients who are Incompetent to Stand Trial. They are licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners who must adhere to DSH Policy & Procedure manual to ensure compliance with regulations. Their role involves working closely with the RTC Psychiatrist to maintain the quality of care for patients in the program.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere strictly to Department of State Hospital (DSH) and company Policy & Procedure (P&P) Manual for performing duties as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
- Conduct weekly individual meetings with Residential Treatment Center (RTC) patients to assess medication compliance and changes in treatment, documenting all findings in the patient's health record.
- Participate in Treatment Team meetings, providing clinical support and guidance as required and assist in coordination of IMO/ALJ processes including court testimony.
- Work cooperatively with the Sheriff’s Office team to foster supportive relationships between staff and Sheriff’s Deputies/Officers.
- Assist in job shadowing, orientation, and training of new employees, if required.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Education associated with licensure as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the state of employment.
Experience
- Prefer one year experience as a licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Licenses/Certifications
- Licensure as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in state of employment
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
Compliance
- Must obtain and maintain security clearance throughout the course of employment.
- Must pass background investigation conducted by the Company and/or Facility as a requisite for initial and or continued employment.
- May be required to undergo reasonable suspicion testing for being under the influence of controlled substances, including prescription, legal, and illegal substances, including marijuana.
- Must undergo security training and orientation on Facility Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Must follow county facility policies and procedures.
