Welspun has immediate openings for Welding Machine Operator

Welspun’s Little Rock facilities are state-of-the-art and one of its kind in technology for producing pipes for the oil and gas industry. The HFW mill is a fully automatic and integrated mill capable of producing pipes ranging in diameter 6 5/8th inches to 20” and wall thickness from 0.158” to 0.551”.

Job Summary: Safely Performs coil joining operations and back chipping operations with quality, conformance to specification with productivity.

Responsibilities:

Tack Repair /ID/OD Saw Operator

· Read and understand work instruction, process chart, welding procedure specification (WPS) and procedure qualification record (PQR) and follow procedure.

· Inspect welding machine (m/c) for fitness to work, set parameter according to PQR

· Safely transfer pipe from forming mill conveyor to inside diameter (ID) for grinding and inspection.

· Safely transfer skelp pipe to skelp cutting station.

· Completed pipes are to be safely transferred to ID/outside diameter (OD) welding stations considering loading on lines.

· Above pipe handling needs to be done in such a way that it gives optimum output.

· Observe work done by tack repair welder, ensure all work is completed before forwarding pipe to the next station, in case of any deviation observed, inform the supervisor.

· Communicate with your supervisor and your team leader of any quality issues.

· Set-up, operate and maintain all tools, equipment, and consumable for smooth operation in tack repair (job box)

· Continuously monitor working condition of welding machine, grounding system, and pipe handling system. If there is abnormality observed inform lead person/supervisor

· This position involves general housekeeping and the ability to work and think safely

· Always be aware of the situation and location of all workers.

· Maintain documentation of process including pipe number, defects, offsets, and station of each pipe attended maintain log book.

· Completed pipes are to be safely transferred to ID/Outside Diameter (OD) welding station considering loading on lines.

· Above pipe handling needed to be done in such a way that it gives optimum output.

· Observe work done by tack repair welder , ensure all work is completed before forwarding pipe to next station in case if any deviation observed inform supervisor.

· Inspect random at least 5 pipes in a shift to ensure workmanship is in line with execrated standards in case deviation observed inform supervisor.

· Continuously monitor working condition of welding machine, grounding system, pipe handling system if abnormality observer inform lead person/supervisor, support in maintenance activity

· Ensure rings are cut for tab preparation; coordinate with crane operator for skelp transfer.

· Ensure smooth changeover to next shift by keeping area in working condition.

· Note down the working machine list and communicate this information with next lead person.

· Ensure that all equipment is working in tack repair. In case of breakdown, inform the shift supervisor/ maintenance.

Mill GMAW Welder

· Setup and maintenance of welding laser to automatically track the pipes horizontal movement.

· Change the consumables as required

· Measure diameter of the pipe with pip tape as required

· Four times per shift ask for feedback of quality from tack repair.

· Outside diameter (OD) tack as required with manual gas metal arc welding (GMAQ) welder.

· Ensure availability and proper storage of consumable.

· Keep work area clean and follow safe working practices

· Operator will assist mill foreman as required during change over and during any mill maintenance.

Stationary Welder

· When the coil tail end is coming out from leveler machine make sure side guide is set on the required position.

· Get the coil number from the de-coiler station and Logged in coil number in to SCCM and Stationary log book.

· Pull the coil tail end with auto or manual mode up to the SCCM machine.

· Start the coil tail end cut at SCCM machine.

· Use machine controls for safe operations.

· Check the SCCM machine data make sure ready for cut.

· Check the coil edge profile as per required WPS for cross seam welding.

· Start the coil tail end cutting at SCCM, monitor and ensure completion of process.

· Pull the tail end up to the stationary welder. Make sure there is no chip on coil tail end.

· Secure the coil tail end on exit clamp.

· Pull the coil front end after cut done on SCCM by de-coiler operator.

· Match the coil front end with the coil tail end by using side guide.

· Use the both side camera and Check the fitment of the coil joint before start the welding and make sure there is no off set, gap or mismatch.

· Start the welding, monitor the process and complete the welding.

· Make sure the tab brake by the tab breaker.

· Remove all the slag and used flux. Make sure no foreign materials on the coil.

· Check the weld quality, in case weld discontinuity observed repairs the same.

· Do the bead grinding as required on both side of the weld end.

· Monitor the coil while leveler is in running condition if find bow or not running on required location immediate give feedback to de-coiler operator.

· Check the SCCM cutter insert and insert tool holder if find damage inform to supervisor and change it.

· Change consumables as required.

· Make sure consumable and tools are available on the machine and same handed over to next shift operator.

· Cut the tab by using shear machine in a safe manner.

· Make sure work area and machine is clean at the end of the shift.

· Other duties as assigned by forming supervisor.

Fly Cross Welder

· Make sure fly cross welder machine is at home position.

· Get the coil number from the de-coiler station.

· Clamp the coil joint in to the machine.

· Do the back chipping if required by process.

· Start the welding, monitor the process and complete the welding.

· Make sure the tab brake by the tab breaker.

· Remove all the slag and used flux. Make sure no foreign materials on the coil.

· Check the weld quality, in case weld discontinuity observe and report to supervisor.

· Do the bead grinding as required on both side of the weld end.

· Bring the machine to the home position.

· Check the cutter insert and insert tool holder if find damage inform to supervisor and change it.

· Make sure consumable and tools are available on the machine and same handed over to next shift operator.

· Cut the tab by using shear machine in a safe manner.

· Make sure work area and machine is clean at the end of the shift.

Education/Experience: High school and welding certification from technical school. At least 2 years’ experience of operating machine with multiple operations at same time. Or equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
