This position is responsible for our quality systems and teams in our Crystal Lake, Illinois facility. The incumbent will plan, direct, review, and control of supplied and manufactured product quality, quality systems, and improvements. Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a strategic Operational Excellence plan to guide the operation to world class Quality levels. Lead the quality department, including quality engineers and process inspectors, to align with the company’s strategic objectives.
- Quality System Implementation: Develop and implement a comprehensive quality system comparable to ISO9001, QS9000, and TS16494, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
- Customer Complaint Management: Oversee the customer complaint system, analyzing return data, implementing actionable improvements, and ensuring high-quality standards.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with shop floor managers, supervisors, operators, and the leadership team to identify and drive strategic quality improvements across the organization.
- Advanced Problem Solving: Lead problem-solving initiatives using methodologies such as Six Sigma, 8-Disciplines, and Design of Experiments to achieve measurable quality enhancements.
- Defect Analysis and Reporting: Provide comprehensive analysis and reporting on defects, corrective actions, and the effectiveness of quality improvements.
- Quality Control Planning: Develop and document robust production quality control plans, ensuring all production and product specifications are met and maintained.
- Process Control: Implement Gage R&R and process capability studies to optimize manufacturing processes.
- Auditing and Compliance: Conduct internal and supplier quality system audits to ensure continuous compliance and improvement of quality standards.
- Lean and Kaizen Leadership: Champion Lean and Kaizen events to drive operational excellence and reduce waste.
- Cost Management: Strategically reduce scrap costs and improve the total cost of quality across facilities.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate strong relationships with plant leadership and key stakeholders to support a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
- Professional Development: Set and pursue personal goals to stay updated with world-class quality practices and industry advancements.
- Additional Duties: Perform other strategic duties as directed by the leadership team.
Experience & Education:
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering or equivalent
- Six Sigma Black belt, mastery of lean manufacturing principles and applications.
- Minimum of 10 years in quality management, including leadership experience, with a preference for those with automotive industry experience
- Certifications: Six Sigma Black Belt and expertise in lean manufacturing principles and applications (preferred).
- ISO experience a plus
- Technical and Analytical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude, quantitative skills, and financial competency to drive strategic quality initiatives.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent ability to work across disciplines and communicate effectively with customers and all levels of the organization, including senior management.
- Proactive Leadership: High energy level, self-motivated, and capable of driving strategic quality improvements independently.
