The Director of Community Nutrition leads our community-based meal services, providing services through Meals on Wheels as well as the delivery of WesleyLife specialty meals. This position supports philanthropic efforts and successfully manages the budget to reach as many individuals as possible. The position develops and cultivates key partnerships with community leaders and other organizations to support food insecurity and delivery systems.
Our ideal candidate will have leadership experience in non-profits in social services or food and nutrition, and leads teams using a collaborative approach. Community and philanthropic partnerships are very important to this position, and consistent achievement of goals and metrics is expected. A passion for solving food insecurity in our community and for how food systems work is needed.
Our Meals on Wheels department will be moving to a new location near Drake University in 2023. Our new building will allow us to develop exciting and innovative new programming to support multi-generational living and expanding community nutritional plans.
As our Director of Community Nutrition, you will:

  • Lead community nutrition programs and services, and collaborate with team members across our company to share resources and plan services and/or events that may benefit those living in the broader community.
  • Lead and influence the vision for community nutrition and the impact the organization has on senior hunger across the state by developing annual operating plans that grow the program, serving more individuals annually.
  • Collaborate closely with Health and Well-being team members to identify ways to address nutritional well-being and meet identified gaps in services for older adults.
  • Manage and lead the Community Nutrition team including hiring/selection, performance management, employee relations, and other day-to-day management responsibilities.
  • Research best practices and innovative approaches to support the well-being and nutrition of older adults. Collaborate with the team to identify community nutrition needs and develop new services/programs to address those needs. Work cross-departmentally to establish and execute business plans using appropriate performance metrics and goals.
  • Partner with the WesleyLife Philanthropy department to raise funds and recruit new volunteers.
  • Partner with vendors and internal services to ensure the highest quality of customer service in every area of operations.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with key local, state, county, or city resources that support funding nutrition services for older adults to support ongoing growth.
  • Collect and/or utilize data regarding community nutrition services and programs to demonstrate progress against goals and measure program effectiveness. Use market-based research to identify potential new programs and services.

Experience
Preferred

  • 3 year(s): Full-time leadership experience in a social services or food and nutrition area. A combination of experience and education may be considered based on the person’s ability to demonstrate related success in previous roles.

Education
Required

  • Associates or better in Human Services or related field
