Job Purpose/Summary
A person who is/has been a recipient of mental health services for serious mental illness holds this position. Due to life experience with mental illness and mental health services, the CRR DAS Peer Specialist – PT/PRN provides expertise that professional training can’t replicate. Peer Specialists are fully integrated team members who provide highly individualized services in the community and promote consumer self-determination and decision-making. The incumbent will also provide essential expertise and consultation to the entire team to promote a culture in which each consumer’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities. The position shall provide the required support consumers need to maintain their prescribed specialized roles.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED is required. Some college credit and/or degree (associate’s or bachelor’s) and/or Peer Specialist Certification preferred.
Experience: Experience as a consumer in the mental health system and familiarity with recovery principles and practices (WRAP, peer mentors, advance psychiatric directives, etc.). The Chief Executive Officer may approve an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses, Certifications & Clearances:
· Act 33/34 Clearances
· FBI Clearance
· Valid State of PA Class 1 Drivers License
· Access to properly insured motor vehicle for client transportation and fieldwork and a safe driving record

· Mental Illness and Substance Abuse Requirements:
o Knowledge of community support systems resources (local meetings, options, etc.)
o Ability to identify symptoms of the MISA population
o Ability to identify differences in MISA population compared to SPMI population
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Coaches and consults consumers to promote recovery and self-direction.
· Trains consumers in the use of WRAP and/or other wellness management strategies.
· Models and cross-trains other team members in recovery principles and strategies.
· Addresses all issues of fraud waste and/or abuse as they arise and proactively looks for ways to prevent instances of fraud, waste, and abuse in the service delivery system and work systems of the agency as described in the agency Compliance Plan.
