Wesleyan College is seeking a Barn Manager for the Nancy Ellis Knox Equestrian Center. As the Barn Manager, responsibilities will include, but are not limited to hiring, training, and continued development of staff, organizing and overseeing care for all horses, ordering supplies for the stables, and working with physical plant on maintenance of the facility.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Order all supplies for the barn.
- Manage medical, feeding, turnout, shoeing, grooming, haying, watering, and shaving.
- Manage horses vaccinations, worming, and other medications and keeping current and updated records.
- Supervise all work study students and Stable and Barn workers.
- Assist with rehabilitation of horses, including cold hosing/wrapping legs, administering medications, hand walking horses, treating colic, lunge horses, etc.
- Maintain the facility which may include mowing lawn, pushing manure, and dragging arenas.
- Ensure the facility is clean, safe, and well-maintained at all times.
- Work with Physical Plant on maintenance, repairs, and projects.
- Keep vehicles/equipment in working order and scheduling maintenance for all vehicles and equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Previous experience managing an equestrian facility. Demonstrated skills in communication, flexibility, organization, leadership, crisis management, problem solving, and the ability to work with diverse populations.
