What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Planner position at West Fraser?
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for incoming work requests, identification of scope, and analysis of the required level of planning.
What you will do:
- Prepares work orders in CMMS to requisition needed parts, services, and trades for each job.
- Conducts field walk-downs to identify and document job requirements.
- Identifies specific safety hazards that will be encountered in the performance of the proposed planned work and makes safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out procedures available to employees.
- Estimates required hours on work order tasks, total work order duration, jobs costs, and skills required to perform the task.
- Plans jobs with the appropriate level of detail for the given skilled trades workforce.
- Determines and includes quality requirements or certifications required on jobs.
- Procures equipment and specialized tools required to perform work.
- Gathers necessary engineering or technical documents, specifications, and drawings.
- Determines and arranges for parts required to perform the work.
- Compiles information into a job package that is ready for skilled trades and clearly communicates with skilled trades regarding critical steps in the process.
- Prints and delivers job packages to the Scheduler in conjunction with the weekly work requirements.
- Upon completion of jobs, communicates with skilled trades regarding ideas and procedures that would make future jobs more efficient.
- Assists with priority setting with the management team – places specific emphasis on obtaining the input of operations personnel in the setting of priorities.
- Assists in keeping bills of materials current.
- Ensures all planned work orders are closed when work is finished.
- Participates in shutdown planning activities such as scope identification and control, scheduling, coordination, risk assessment, execution, and continuous improvement.
- Communicate with contractor resources directly on specific work orders assigned to the contractors and the performance expectations of the work order. Does not manage the contractors but ensures that all of the details of the work order are clearly communicated and understood.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and skill you will need:
- BS Degree in Maintenance or 5 years experience
- Experience in operational process improvements
- Experience in Process Safety
- Experience in Project Management
- Experience in equipment Reliability
- Understanding of mechanical equipment operation and process flow
- Able to work independently and collaboratively with a team
- Strong Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and documentation experience
- Strong Failure Analysis experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project
- Strong Microsoft Office skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
