Supervises:
- None
Essential Job Functions:
- Identifies potential Limited English Proficient (LEP) students upon referral from schools utilizing the Home Language Surveys
- Participates with state English Proficiency Testing
- Has an understanding of and the ability to access the ESL Innovations software for needed student information
- Provides instruction in English to enhance basic skills for identified LEP students requiring assistance as number of students and schedules allow
- Researches appropriate instructional materials for use with student
- Serves as a resource for best practices to classroom teachers who serve LEP students
- Serves as a resource for families of LEP students to enhance communication and cooperation with the school including translation services as able
- Supports the school community by actively encouraging participation of families with
- LEP students in school activities
- Provides insight into the cultures and social systems for LEP students for school community, school staff and students
- Provides assistance with remedial and curriculum-based content instruction for LEP students
- Maintains appropriate records for determining academic and language acquisition growth of students
- Cooperates with the Director in department activities as requested
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Physical and Cognitive Requirements:
The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the ESL Teacher
job classification within Hoke County Schools. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
Must be able to:
- Prepare, read and comprehend a variety of job related forms, reports, spreadsheets, maps, plans, records, documentation and correspondence in all languages required by the job
- Understand and conform to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style
- Speak to individuals or groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence

- Write using standard convention in all languages required by the job
