West Houston Veterinary Medical Association is looking for a full-time experienced Veterinary Technician. You’ll be responsible for concierge-style customer service and impeccable patient care. You’ll work in tandem with our receptionists and veterinarians to provide our clients and patients with excellent veterinary experiences in a loving and welcoming environment.
Veterinarian Technician Job Responsibilities:
Provides animal care by determining animal requirements.
Conducts examinations and diagnostic procedures.
Assists during operations.
Feeds and cares for animals.
Maintains supplies and equipment.
Maintains records.
Determines animal requirements by conducting examinations and interviews.
Completes laboratory tests and studies and diagnostic imaging.
Takes vital signs and collects samples.
Administers medications, drugs, and vaccines.
Bandages and wraps wounds.
Performs hydrotherapy and physical and inhalation therapies.
Supports animal examinations by assembling required supplies and instruments.
Explains animal status to owners.
Prepares surgery table instruments.
Completes local/regional anesthesia.
Places catheters and obtains blood gases as needed.
Maintains sterile conditions.
Obtains and verifies medications.
Cleans animal cages and equipment
Maintains a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments, sanitizing operating areas, verifying shelf life of medications, and complying with legal regulations.
Enhances service reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Job Qualifications
Must have at least 2 years of small animal tech experience
Must have a working knowledge of veterinary terminology, supplies, and procedures
Confidence in your skillset and readiness to learn what you don’t already know
Must be a bright, friendly, and effective communicator in order to communicate with clients, visitors, veterinarians, and other hospital staff. (It’s okay if you talk to animals, too!)
Must have a pleasant presence on the phone and great phone etiquette
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and move freely for extended periods of time
Must be able to lift 50 squirming pounds
Must be able to work in a veterinary environment with exposure to infection or contagious diseases
A high school diploma or GED required
