WEST has an exciting, challenging and immediate opportunity for one or more Senior Managers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in leading teams, managing natural resource field studies, agency and client coordination, as well as environmental permitting/planning associated with renewable energy and transmission line projects.

The minimum base salary for this position is $100,000 and the maximum is $150,000, plus annual bonus. Salary may vary based on education, knowledge and experience.

 

Job Summary:

  • Senior Managers are responsible for managing, leading and evaluating a team of employees consisting of Team Leaders, Project Managers, and other staff.
  • Senior Managers are responsible for managing staff that are fulfilling WEST’s collective workload consisting of contracts for services while collaborating with Practice Group Leaders, Client Liaisons, and Quality Manager to provide highest quality deliverables.
  • Senior Managers help fulfill WEST’s strategic goals and objectives along with Practice Group Leaders and Client Liaisons.
  • Senior Managers report to the Service Director and work collectively as a team along with other Senior Managers, Practice Group Leaders, Client Liaisons, Quality Manager, and Business Development Manager to fulfill essential job functions.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist the Executive Team and Service Directors in communicating WEST’s mission, core principles, procedures and processes to all employees.
  • Promote WEST culture, including a commitment to honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Help team members understand WEST’s policies (Employee Policy Manual) and procedures and meeting company administrative needs.
  • Foster a strong intra- and interoffice team approach within WEST; develop strong teams both internal to the Senior Management Team and across varied career pathways.
  • Foster a consensus-building managerial approach, while ensuring it is clear when, how and by whom decisions are made.
  • Along with Practice Group Leaders and Client Liaisons, encourage and support employees in pursuing growth opportunities and work they find professionally satisfying.
  • Along with Practice Group Leaders and Client Liaisons, work to fulfill WEST’s strategic goals and objectives.
  • Promote a positive work environment where team members, employees, clients, and partners are treated with respect.
  • Maintain the infrastructure and environment necessary for work to be carried out in a safe manner.
  • Evaluate team member performance; oversee the quality of employee performance and address underperforming employees within their team.
  • Set expectations that team members are accountable for providing high quality services and work products while collaborating with WEST’s technical experts, client experts, and Quality team.  
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring to team members (and the broader WEST staff) for growth opportunities and maximizing staff talent and potential.
  • Help develop and maintain comradery, team building, continued improvement, and instill loyalty to WEST.
  • In coordination with Service Directors, recruit and retain employees, facilitating the hiring, disciplinary action, and firing processes.
  • Continue to contribute to work products and services through assistance with or management of active WEST projects.
  • Work with the Service Directors and SMT in managing overall workload, services and products to meet contractual needs of the company.
  • Work within the larger Senior Management Team to help balance staff workloads.
  • Work with Practice Groups, Client Liaisons, and Quality Manager to ensure on time and high quality work products. 
  • Work with the Executive Team, Service Directors, Business Development Team, Practice Groups, and Client Liaisons, to market WEST to existing and new clients and identify new business opportunities.
  • Work with the Executive Team, Service Directors, Business Development Team, and Client Liaisons, and other WEST personnel as appropriate, to develop proposals and respond to RFPs.
  • Assist Client Liaisons and Project Managers in maintaining productive and mutually beneficial working relationships with clients and partners.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biological studies, natural resources, wildlife management, wildlife biology, statistics, business or finance, or related field.
  • Six (6) plus years of experience in environmental consulting with WEST; or ten (10) plus years of experience in environmental consulting overall.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills, including the ability to develop talent, coach, and mentor staff; ability to effectively supervise and motivate others;
  • Ability to develop cohesive, effective, and highly productive teams;
  •  Proven collaboration skills with peers, upper management, and others;
  • Strategic development and thinking, and developing insights into external market forces, competitors, and clients;
  • General understanding of finance, financial goals and budgeting, including understanding how the firm makes money and the importance of balancing billable and non-billable time;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Strong time management and organizational skills;
  • Ability to conduct interviews and properly evaluate candidates;
  • Ability to effectively delegate workloads;
  • Ability to follow instructions from managers and accept guidance and constructive criticism.

 

After an offer of employment is made, the candidate must successfully pass a pre- employment background check, drug screening, and a DMV records check that meets WEST’s minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company.  A valid driver’s license will be required.
