West Pak Avocado is looking for a dynamic DOT Compliance Specialist to join our Transportation/Logistics team!
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Execute the daily standard work necessary to manage equipment including inspecting equipment, creating repair requests, monitoring repair execution, ensuring on-time preventive maintenance, managing campaigns and recalls, and maintaining unit history (e.g., for washes, warranties, registrations)
- Establish and maintain quality controls, record keeping (electronic logging), fleet policies and procedures including but not limited to monitoring fleet, inspections, maintenance, repairs, accident reporting, fleet registration/insurance and fleet safety
- Accountable for working with all maintenance providers and or carriers to ensure fleet is properly maintained
- Work with maintenance resources to set priorities for equipment repairs within region and follow up with maintenance resources to ensure timely repairs
- Provide documentation support to ensure DOT compliance; stay aware of maintenance requirements, and support all regulatory inspections required to maintain DOT compliance
- Monitor and track vehicle usage, implementing proper controls on the fuel cards and fuel consumption
- Managing compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), DOT and other federal and state transportation agencies
- Managing driver files in accordance with company, state, and federal requirements
- Ensuring all fleet members have proper licensure and up-to-date training
- Monitoring drivers to ensure adherence to schedules and proper driving practices
- Maintain driver safety, report all work-related injuries, and complete investigations
- Searching for, hiring, and training new drivers
- Providing reports to management on budgeting, schedules, maintenance, and fleet progress
- Developing methods to decrease cost and improve efficiency
- Responsible for quickly addressing and resolving performance related problems with vendors/maintenance service
- Stay informed on the transportation industry, including government regulations and legal developments, company policy changes that can impact transportation services and expenses
- Participate to all transport related complaints investigation and resolution
- Contribute to team efforts by recommending process improvements
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 2 years fleet management, transportation, or related experience.
Skills
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Excellent verbal/written communication and follow-through skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook etc.)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent follow up, documentation and communication skills
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to deliver results under challenging deadlines
- Ability to operate both autonomously and as part of a wider collaborative team
- Ability to multitask and work well under pressure
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
The essential functions of this job require frequent standing, walking, and upper body movements. Physical demands include bending, stooping, reaching above and below shoulder level. Lifting and carrying are also essential.
- Ability to carry, reach and lift supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance
- Ability to push, pull and maneuver supplies and equipment of varying weights and configurations
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb during the storage and distribution of equipment and supplies and while performing maintenance and repair duties
- Ability to stand and walk for extended time periods
- Hearing and vision within normal ranges with or without correction
