What are the responsibilities and job description for the Appeals Clerk position at Westaff?
Seeking an Appeals Clerk that is responsible for preparing, indexing, and copying all civil and criminal appeal records to be sent to the First Circuit Court of Appeal. This position requires acute attention to detail.
Must be a permanent resident of St. Tammany Parish
- Copies, numbers, and indexes the records and transcripts; files the appeals with the First Circuit Court of Appeal or Louisiana Supreme Court, all in accordance with state law
- Pulls and checks all evidence filed in record to send to state appellate courts
- Processes dismissals of appeals
- Processes returns from the First Circuit Court of Appeal and/or Louisiana Supreme Court
- Prepares and maintains a spreadsheet of all pending appeals and comply with applicable appellate deadlines
- Sets return dates for appeal and prepare records for writs with appellate courts
- Copies records for appeals for the United States District Courts (federal)
- Corresponds and works closely with court reporters
- Assists walk-in customers at the customer counter and inquiries from the public
- Assists other teams, divisions and/or departments with responsibilities
