Position Overview
As a Part-Time Temporary Early Elementary Child Assessor , you will conduct one-on-one math assessments with kindergarteners on-site in elementary schools in the San Juan Bautista, CA (San Benito County) area.
This is considered a remote position as it is not affiliated with a WestEd office, but all work will be conducted from an elementary school and home office .
This position is part of a larger research project funded by the U.S. Department of Education, designed to evaluate the effects of a digital supplementary math program on overall mathematical knowledge.
Serving as a member of the research team, the Early Elementary Child Assessor will be responsible for administering assessments to kindergarteners three to five days a week in public elementary schools.
Upon hire, assessors will participate in summer training to learn to administer the assessments in the Fall of 2024. We anticipate that training will take place in August 2024, and assessments will begin in September and end in October / November, depending on school schedules.
Successful applicants will be paid for all training activities, as well as for time conducting assessments and associated research activities.
Travel mileage will also be paid. This is a part-time, temporary position that may include additional assessment opportunities in Spring 2025.
What We’re Looking For

The availability to work, on average, between 15-25 hours per week during the assessment period. Successful candidates should be available for training and certification on the measures in August 2024.
Assessments are expected to begin in September, and we conclude in October / November, depending on each district. There will be additional assessment opportunities in Spring 2025.
- A bachelor’s degree in psychology, human development, early childhood education, or any field that provides the relevant experience to perform the responsibilities outlined above.
- Fluency in English.
- Intermediate proficiency in Spanish to be able to administer the assessments bilingually is preferred.
Other Skills
- Located in San Juan Bautista, CA (San Benito County) area.
- Professionalism to establish partnerships with school staff, teachers, and children.
- Prior experience working with elementary school children is required.
- Available to work at least 4 consecutive hours, at least 3 mornings and / or afternoons per week during the assessment period.
- Proof of a negative TB test will be required upon hire.
- Applicants must comply with COVID-19 district / program protocol (e.g., temperature checks and wearing masks).
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Note : Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Successful candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

SALARY : The salary for this part-time position is $30 / hour.
