Position Summary
Prepares accounting information and performs accounting processes to assist in producing financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in accordance with the mission, core values and purposes of the University.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Prepares and enters general ledger entries.
- Balances and reconciles accounts to the general ledger.
- Analyzes account activity, reconciles accounts and makes adjusting entries.
- Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts and multi-entity ledgers.
- Assists in the preparation of annual tax filings.
- Provides accounting knowledge to assist other departments within the University.
- Assists with audit preparation.
- Assists with the implementation, documentation, and training of new processes, procedures and applications.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date accounting documents and records.
- Functions as a back-up to other accounting staff positions.
- Assists with any special projects or reports as needed for the Accounting Manager, Accounting Supervisor, Controller or CFO.
- Assists the Accounts Payable function in the performance of their duties.
- Assists with escheatment processing as assigned.
- Performs month end close activities with the accounting department.
- Assist in the review of internal controls to establish more effective controls.
- Collaborates with other departments to ensure appropriate accounting and process flow.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
- Strong understanding of accounting theory, practices and procedures.
- Highly detail oriented and organized.
- Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to act and operate independently with minimal direction from manager.
- Ability to develop accounting procedures and to monitor compliance with those procedures.
- Works well in teams, cooperates using individual skills and willing and able to provide and give feedback.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicant should have one of the following:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting (with no work experience required).
- Associates degree or equivalent experience in accounting with 1-2 years of experience.
- Job experience and training equivalent to the above 2 bullet points.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Resides in Salt Lake City metro area.
