What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Coordinator in the Technology Enhancing Community Health Lab position at Western Kentucky University?
Principal Investigator (Dr. Jenni Teeters) is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual for a full-time project coordinator (PC) position. This is a 2-year appointment, with the second-year contingent on renewal. The start date is sometime between June 1 and July 1, 2022. This coordinator will assist with a large, federally funded substance use intervention grant. The grant will evaluate a mobile-phone based intervention aimed at reducing substance-impaired driving among young adults.
The post-baccalaureate research coordinator will work closely with the PI on all aspects of the project including:
- Submission and maintenance of IRB documentation and approvals
- Assisting with development and maintenance of study protocols
- Overseeing project recruitment efforts in the community
- Managing daily lab activities and implementing lab procedures
- Help in coordinating and attending bi-weekly lab meetings
- Providing guidance to graduate and undergraduate students working on the project
- Assisting with database management, cleaning, and preliminary analyses
- Opportunities to co-author paper and poster presentations (including paid travel to scientific meetings)
- Opportunities to co-author manuscripts and to assist with the development of a future NIH R01 grant
The project coordinator will be extensively trained in Motivational Interviewing, a therapy style that will prepare them for future interactions with patients, clients, and/or other people in general and the Timeline Followback assessment, a widely used calendar-based method that has shown to be a reliable and valid self-report assessment of substance use.
This would be an ideal position for individuals planning to apply for a clinical psychology PhD program or other related programs (especially to labs conducting research on substance use and/or digital mental health). The PI has a strong track record of preparing students for these types of programs.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field
- Previous experience working in a research lab and strong interests in substance use intervention research and/or digital mental health interventions
- Comfort with technology, strong writing skills, and experience using word, excel, and data analytic software (SPSS, R, MPLUS)
