Overview:
Summary of Responsibilities:
Performs routine general ledger accounting and/or budgeting and cost accounting. Assists in the creation of financial statements and provides financial reporting and financial variance analysis. Prepares journal entries on a day-to-day basis to properly record financial transactions. Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, as well as additional financial reporting. Participates on departmental initaitives and projects. Works under direct supervision and is responsible for making an established range of decisions, escalating to manager when necessary and updating manager on a regular basis.
Position Responsibilities:
Performs the routine general ledger accounting responsibilities for life insurance subsidiaries, on both a statutory and a GAAP basis.
Prepares routine monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and additional financial reporting, for distribution to management, the Board of Directors, regulators and rating agencies.
Provides monthly financial variance analysis of selected general ledger accounts, and escalates comments to department leadership.
Assists in the implementation and maintenance of effective processes and procedures for completing and improving work.
Assists management in identifying and developing analysis tools necessary to help manage the business.
Identifies accounting issues impacting the Company and notifies appropriate personnel.
Maintains working knowledge of current statutory and GAAP accounting principles.
Performs routine account reconciliations in order to ensure the integrity of financial data.
Participates as a resource on special projects, including testing of new systems and processes.
Leverages operational excellence to identify, evaluate and implement changes to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
Selection Criteria:
Typically having up to two years of professional experience.
Demonstrated basic knowledge and understanding of statutory and GAAP accounting principles.
Cites examples of application of accounting principles to business situations.
Proven ability to analyze and interpret financial statements.
Demonstrated successful experience in problem-solving situations.
Proven experience handling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
