What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Accountant position at WesTest Engineering?
WesTest is an engineering services and manufacturing company within the aerospace and defense industry. WesTest specializes in automatic test equipment for a variety of aircraft and missile platforms.
We are looking for a Cost Accountant to to join our team in our Layton Utah office.
The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator, attentive, and efficient. He/she can complete work skillfully and independently. He/she will have the ability and desire to progress and grow within the organization. He/she will have the ability to be flexible and able to perform a variety of tasks at various skill levels.
Responsibilities
- Proposal pricing – Review request for quotes, work with the engineering team to create basis of estimates and price proposals.
- Contract review and approval – Review contract awards for accuracy, then create a job authorization to initiate internal work.
- Job Costing - Maintain job costing system. EVMS tracking of job performance and profitability.
- Forecasting/Financial Modeling - Create the annual budget baseline, then create monthly forecast updates with variance analysis.
- Overhead rate development - calculate overhead rates and track variances.
- Accounting – Assist with AP/AR, Payroll and taxes as needed.
- Human Resources – Assist with HR tasks as needed.
- Program Management – Opportunity for some program management as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

This position requires access to our export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology and services. These items are restricted under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) to U.S. Citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents of the U.S. and properly licensed foreign persons. Therefore, employment is contingent on compliance with ITAR regulations and successfully obtaining and maintaining the necessary export authorization license from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security, U.S. Department of State’s Office of Defense Trade Controls, or other applicable government agency.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field is required.
- Three to Five years of related experience is required
- Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft programs
- Experience in aerospace industry preferred
