Job description

Medical office in Culver City seeking exceptional back office medical assistant to work in a fast-paced OB/GYN office, with a go-getter attitude! An excellent candidate would possess the qualities of organization, professionalism, and a welcoming demeanor. Applicants must have previous OB/GYN or Surgery work experience in order to be considered.

Core responsibilities include: Applicants will be responsible for rooming patients, set-up, assisting, and recovering patients from minor surgical procedures. Will notify patients with normal and abnormal test results. EMR (electronic medical records) experience is a must. Applicants will perform daily blood draws, injections, and reinforce health education and counseling. In addition, you will collect specimens and follow appropriate protocols for handling, labeling, and preparing for transportation to the lab including proper identification, storage procedures, and recording into the lab book.

Must be able to cross-train by answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, entering data and assisting with medical records. Candidates must communicate in writing, over the phone, and in person with equal parts efficacy and compassion. We have a supportive, tight-knit office staff and would appreciate someone to enrich and collaborate with the team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Learns and becomes proficient with the office’s electronic medical records system.
  • Obtains and documents chief complaints, updates medical history, obtains vital signs, and clean rooms.
  • Prepares patients for scheduled procedures by ensuring patients are undressed and appropriately gowned.
  • Responsible for review and daily chart preparation. Record Pap smear and/or mammogram results, entering data for results/recall, and ensuring that abnormal results are efficiently processed and appropriately followed up on in accordance with established office protocols.
  • Perform daily blood draws, properly identify specimens, and record labs into the lab book.
  • Prepares and administers vaccines, medications, as ordered by the Provider. Utilizes the Six Rights of Medication Administration.
  • Ensures all patient care areas are adequately stocked with unexpired supplies and medications.
  • Sterilizes instruments, equipment, and supplies as required, when applicable.
  • Take patient calls requesting prescription refills, test results, and other miscellaneous inquiries. Obtain medication information and approval from physicians and relay to patients. Call in prescription refills at the pharmacy.
  • Completes necessary paperwork and prior authorizations.
  • Follow all Employee Handbook policies and procedures.
  • Respect and promote patients’ right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) laws.
  • Comply with CLIA, OSHA, Joint Commission, and other regulatory agency standards. Implement infection control and safety measures per office policies. Participate in in-service programs as needed.
  • Demonstrates cooperative work attitude and respect toward and with physicians, co- employees, management, patients, visitors, and sales representatives.

Schedule:

Full time position, 8hrs plus overtime (as needed)

Monday to Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
