Sr. Sheetmetal Technician - (This is a Contract/ Contract-to-Hire role)
The Sr. Sheetmetal Technician is a key person in the metal shop with responsibilities that include executing all production requirements from drawing to shipment in the Fabrication Department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Determine required methods and materials, and plan, fabricate and assemble various sheet metal products according to Engineering blueprints, drawings, verbal instructions and even napkin sketches
- Manipulate flat patterns
- Lay out, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines on material
- Select gauges and types of sheet metal to use according to specifications that include brass, copper, aluminum, steel, stainless steel
- Responsible for managing inventory levels of material, consumables and shop floor supplies
- Lead and/or participate in Continuous Improvement activities, to include: 5S, Kaizen Events, Team Building, and Training
- Perform basic preventative maintenance on equipment, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
- Provide feedback to site management to identify future requirements and support strategic decisions
- Develop specifications from general description and draw sketch of part or product to be fabricated
- Confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve component or assembly issues
- Cut, program, bend, deburring, inspect, install perm nuts, rivets or other small assemblies as required
- Performs other related duties, as assigned
EDUCATION, TRAINING, SKILLS:
- 10 years Sheetmetal fabrication experience required
- Hands-on experience with operating sheet metal machinery to fabricate units with complex contours and multiple angles
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Must have proven experience using a variety of hand and power tools, including precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, protractors, etc.)
Ability to operate (some or most) the following equipment:
- CNC Press Brakes
- CNC Laser
- CNC Punch Press
- Cut off saws, Shears, V-Notcher, Grinders, Routers
- Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff and smooth surfaces using hand or power tools
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs
- Stand a minimum of 8 hours per day
- Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed
